I would totally disagree. They're a lot of us here running 37s and 38s with stock. Upgrading the steering stabilizer should be at the bottom of any JL build.
I've changed my steering stab to a Falcon and better shocks ......its noticeable. No more flubber/shudder when crossing bridge seams and the ride is more controlled as needed with heavier tires than stock.

I'm done with modifications and changing the stabilizer WAS the last thing I did. Does that meet your jeep build rules?

Is it just me that I don't want anyone to touch my vehicle or even replace it since I'm not having any issues?
Nah, me too. I'm not going in for it, my '19 is fine right now with 38's.

If I start getting DW I'll buy a Fox.

And I got a good chuckle at whoever mentioned TTY bolts. On a steering stabilizer? Yeah......NO.

I think some people hear "steering" and assume this is a structural hard part. This is a cushion, even a luxury and many would say a BandAid. It's like the soft close mechanism on your kitchen drawers - nice to have but the world doesn't end if it isn't functioning perfectly.

Well-
Had dealership in MN replace last week!
They installed sticker pointing to back of Jeep with ā€œbumpā€on the top.
Less than 100 miles since fix.
Hit a man-hole cover today under 30mph, very quickly became educated on what death wobble feels like. No difference than grabbing the agitator on a top load washing machine!!!
Took my 225lbs off the seat and did not stop shaking till I came to complete stop.
Called dealership, they are reinstalling new one again tomorrow.
My Grandfathers voice is resonating in my head today saying ā€œDonā€™t fix something that is not brokenā€!
Arrggghhhh!!!!!

What do you mean by " < 100 miles since fix"? Were you driving with the stabilizer incorrectly installed, or did you drive 100 miles after they corrected the error?

I'm not indicating either is reason you got the wobbles... but if this is your second go-round with the "upgraded" stabilizer, hopefully you'll check the install before you drive off.

Did original recall fix last week after receiving letter in mail 2 weeks ago. It took 6 days and <100 miles before this new steering damper was junk because it was not installed correctly.
If happens again, I will call corporate and have them send out parts so I can install myself.
Guess Iā€™m saying that I miss the years when OEM was better than aftermarket parts!!

This is part of the reason I am on the fence, aside I'm skeptical of this helping a DW. I think they are doing this to make people feel like they are getting something for all those unhappy about the steering itself. Maybe a cheap way to get folks off their back and toss them a bone.. who knows.

If I decide to do it I will order the parts and seek reimbursement and install it myself.

If this were some major reflash or something then I have no options to let them touch my vehicle. I would be skeptical then as well since I am not having any issues with anything. Time will tell on all this.

Anytime I had issues with a vehicle it was letting the dealer do work and basic stuff like the free oil changes. Screwed up my Liberty and I'm not having it again. Not worth the free cheapo stabilizer to have a vehicle hacked over.

Hope they make it right for you and this is in fact your DW. Good luck.

Yikes! Thank you for sharing this. My steering is fine, and has been for 22,000 miles. I will not be getting this recall service done until/unless Iā€™ve got a good reason. Your grandfather sounds like a wise man.

The dealer installed mine incorrectly and test drove it that way. I insisted they replace it with a new damper and hardware. I suggest everyone else who has had their damper installed incorrectly insist that they replace with a new one. Itā€™s a safety recall. They shouldnā€™t be messing around.

Can anyone explain why the intake valve needs to be positioned on the bottom, or how it functions for that matter?
I had mine done today. I'm anxious about picking it up, as it seems like it's a 50/50 shot whether they do it correctly... kind of like my 3 year old putting on her shoes, equal chance of getting it right/wrong.

Hello Mark, are those of us who are mechanically inclined still OK to buy an aftermarket unit and get reimbursement from FCA? Please advise.

Thanks!

No. Jeep recognized there was an issue that could be solved by replacing the stabilizer. Prior to this, if an owner came to the same conclusion and had to come out of pocket for an aftermarket stabilizer they will reimburse because Jeep didnā€™t have a resolution.
FCA isnā€™t going to buy you a $200 Fox stabilizer when theyā€™ve determined they can buy one from their parts supplier that accomplished the same goal for $15/unit.
