I have a 2020 turbo jl. I’ve noticed that when I start it up, there’s a distinct gurgle/bubble noise coming from exhaust area and engine is loud.

This lasts for about 2 minutes and than sounds “normal”.

Told it’s supposed to do that but I’m not buying that line.

I can tell you my 2018 2.0T does exactly the same thing. I’m assuming it’s going through a warmup routine, because it seems to operate perfectly.

Completely normal. Computer idles high on startup to compensate for any auxiliary load on the engine when cold. I’ve also heard that it’s to prewarm the catalytic converter(s).
Same concept as choking a carbureted engine on cold start.

I saw this post title and immediately thought of this (extremely NSFW) prank call using Tracey Morgan clips (including, “gurgle, gurgle”).

It’s the red one in profile pic, 2 door, used to own a jku, the turbo runs smooth, still trying to get used to the new soft top, ha...already put side steps on, antenna, gas cover, and tinted the soft top window with “cling” tint.

How much does your engine rpm hesitate or fluctuate before gradually settling down? My 2.0L Turbo 4 has never stalled on me, but on a cold start it has some hesitation and rpm bounce (mild) for the first 15-20 seconds. Curious if anyone else has noticed this and it's normal, or if this is a sign of something else.

I came looking for a thread to see if anyone else was experiencing this. My 2 week old 500mi 2020 2.O has a very erratic cold start behavior. It misses and fluctuates RPMs for about a minute on a cold start. It also idles higher than I would expect, about 1500 RPM for at least a few minutes; in 80 degree weather. Also pushes out a little white smoke initially. I always wait at least a minute before putting in drive after starting, and at times it bangs into gear at the high RPM. Is this normal?

Mine did this probably for the first 1k miles. Now that I have almost 5k, I don't have that smoke but it does idle high at start, which I believe is normal.

Mine also banged into gear when brand new - that has pretty much gone away now that I have 2,200 miles.

High idle is normal until it warms up but I never had tach flutter or surging. White smoke could just be water vapor, very normal.

Only when you smell something sweet from the exhaust is when that white smoke is coolant, and coolant in the exhaust means it's getting burned up in the cylinder and that's a head gasket right there. You would know right away.

Document it and I would keep driving it to break in and see if it settles. I'm at 44kmi on my 2018 and I will get a hard shift once in a while. Always happened, also seems to be normal.
