Hey everyone!

I was browsing a bit for beginner friendly off-roading/overlanding clubs in the GTA, but I've noticed most (if not all?) are private groups on FB, but I don't use facebook at all.

Does anyone know of any groups or clubs in the GTA that aren't facebook based? I'm brand new to jeeps, but I really want to get out there, and I feel like a club would be a great and safe way to learn. Am I going to have to make an account? :(

@Corvus,

Sorry I have no information of clubs in the Greater Toronto Area. I live along the Front Range of Colorado. But I too refuse to Facebook. Never created an account and never will.

The Jeep Club I joined is almost exclusively using FB for nearly everything. But not all. The good old traditional communications methods are still effective. Phone, text and email are the ways I reach out.

Do I miss out on some things, yes. But after making good lifelong friends along the way, most people share their distain for facebook too. Nearly everyone is very receptive to becoming more genuinely human and reaching out in other more traditional ways.

I'm finding my absolute reluctance to using fb has a positive influence in becoming way more personal and interactive. While, I have no mission in life to cancel any anti-social apps, I do try my very best in establishing the connections to people in the best way possible; through friendly contact.

Jeeping with a club is fantastic. So much mentorship and opportunities that would otherwise be missed. Jeeping with friends is absolutely priceless. The fun and camaraderie makes every outing way so much better.

But no, being a software engineer watching colleagues, family and friends get into trouble in this insane cancel culture, artificially managed society is something I'll never personally promote. Friendships can and should be made through common interests (like jeeping), with wide tolerance and acceptance of other non-related opinions.

However, the anti-social apps, seem to foster, even albeit by subtle, uncivil divisiveness rather than promoting any sense of pure simple polite human connection.

I hope you find a contact to a club outside of any social app. Preferably a face-to-face meeting. Friendships flourish when not corrupted by digital manipulation and outside influences. The people I've met here in the GDA (greater Denver area) have been some of the most remarkably welcoming, interesting, diverse and friendly group of people I've ever met. Many I will cherish now as lifelong friends. And they all know that they can count on me for anything. But they also know, I'll never be available through farcebook.

Good luck, wish you the best. Come visit Colorado some time. We (and especially me) would be more than happy to go wheeling with you.

Hope you find an equally way cool group of fellow jeepers.

Jay

@Jeepoch

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try to find an email or some other contact information to reach out.

I definitely don't want to make a fb account unless I absolutely have to. While I understand why they use it, I wish they didn't!

I’m the president of Durham 4x4 Off-road. While we do a lot of our membership comms on FB we are in the process of revamping our web presence to include details in club events there as well.

We meet weekly every Wednesday at the Tim Hortons at Stellar Dr and Thickson rd in Whitby. 19:00 until the last of us leave.

Our first official run will be April 15th on Lingham Hydroline out in Madoc. It’s an easy, stock friendly trail open year round.
