GMRS definitely works better than simple FRS bubble pack radios - usually better made TX/RX, usually higher gain detachable antennas (illegal in pure FRS radios), higher output pwr in most cases. Note you need an FCC license for GMRS operation which is $70 (supposed to be reduced to $35) for 10years on the FCC website -no test required just fill out the appropriate application

I understand all that. I’m just saying that for trail rides they get the job done just fine.

I just got my GMRS license and it's still $70.

I got mine after they announced the price drop. Paid full $70 too. Hope they circle back with refunds.

Wouxun KG-805G

Does this work fine from inside the Jeep? I'm just looking for a GMRS radio for trail runs.

I've wired up plenty of CBs and antennas in Jeeps, but if a handheld works well enough, I'd rather just do that.

We can get strung out by a mile or so, but usually not much more than that.

Works fine for the trail runs I’m in through the woods. These radios are line of sight. Basically if you can see it, it will reach it.

I run this rig, I mostly use it for HAM, but it can operate on GMRS frequencies as well. Uses your phone via Bluetooth to control it. And you can use your phone as a speaker/mic as well. The radios mic is a speaker/ mic as well...and they have a deticated wireless speaker/mic if you prefer that. It's technically not licensed/approved for GMRS so your all aware.

Where can someone actually get a Wouxun KG-1000G?

Seems out of stock everywhere.

Mine just came in. The first thing I did was swap the angled face plate base with the flat one. I'm mounting the radio on the passenger side of my center console.

I'm mounting the KG-1000G mobile radio this weekend. I usually bring my KG-935G handheld (with its charger) when I'm wheeling or overlanding.
