Did you ever get anywhere on this? I'm experiencing the same thing in my JLUR. It has about 700 miles on it. It's felt that way since I picked it up after being built. I started researching it because I didn't recall the JLUR I test drove feeling the same. I had it back at the dealer today to pick something up and asked to test drive another manual. The feel was completely different. Granted it was a sport, so obviously gears are going to feel different, but the clutch pedal was very smooth regardless of whether I was in neutral or in gear. Mine is fine in neutral and only seems gritty when shifting through the gears. Anyway, was just curious if you ever got anywhere with your dealer. I just scheduled an appointment to take mine in.
They had to replace the entire assembly.

So to anyone that has issues. The three issues that my Jeep has had are:
1. Radio resetting itself - Replaced.
2. Pedal Assembly rubbing feeling. - Replaced entire Assembly.
3. Rear end clunking. - Replaced.

Now looking at replacing Jeep. Jeep has been wonderful during the process.

Update: So just over 26k miles and I took it in last week for tire rotation. Figured Iā€™d have them take a listen to the clutch again (started squeaking a few thousand miles ago to go along with the grinding feeling in the pedal). Turns out itā€™s a rusted throwout bearing. It should be done this Friday and Iā€™ll post with any other details I can get when I pick it up.

I starting feeling this spongy/grindy feeling in the clutch petal at like 600 miles on my JLUS. I noticed it the first time I was in city traffic and was constantly in and out of first gear with a lot of clutch modulation. Canā€™t stop noticing it now though itā€™s most noticeable when driving slow in traffic. When the car is off, the clutch goes in and out with a ā€œnormalā€ feeling. And when driving, it engages, disengages, and shifts totally fine. Just the feeling in my left foot is all. Iā€™ll have the dealer take a look at my first service.

@JeepCares do you have any documented issues I can take to the dealer about my clutch assembly vibrating/grinding as described here? I know there are multiple threads on the subject and I told my dealer I had an issue on the very first day I owned it, it was passed off as normal because another vehicle on the lot did the same thing. As time goes on it comes and goes, like others I've just kinda learned to live with it, but I know my TJ didn't feel like this despite the transmission nearly falling off. The vibrating/grinding clutch is my biggest disappointment about this Jeep and I get nowhere with the dealer because they simply "don't feel it" or "it's a Jeep thing". An expensive Jeep.

Hi RockyMtnHigh,

Would you mind sending us a direct message with your VIN? We do have access to available service bulletins so I'd be glad to check for any related to what you've described.

I'm in the very unique position as my 2018 Rubicon ( 6spd Manual ) was defective for another reason, and I received a 2019 Rubicon ( 6spd Manual ). I can say w/o a doubt that my 2018 didn't have this grinding, while my 2019 does have what I would describe as a grinding feeling when braking and down shifting into first gear. It's clearly felt in the cluth pedal.

I will not be a happy camper if I have to take my 2nd new jeep into shop for mechanical issues.

I will follow this thread very closely, and hope to GOD Jeep does a recall on this issue.

Can you share with this group rather than private msgs?? Why the hiding? We are all having this issue here and we'd like to be included on what's discussed for a remedy.

Anyone with a manual transmission experience an odd grinding/modulating feel in the clutch pedal when engaged? I also feel it if I touch my foot to the pedal when at a steady speed. No noise, I just feel it.
I believe you're feeling the throwout bearing making contact with the clutch pressure plate fingers. I believe it is indeed normal, unless it becomes a noise that indicates the bearing is failing.

We don't advise to correspond with us in private messages to hide. When we're researching, we're asking for private information and also handle matters on a case by case basis with dealers. If you're working with yours or plan to, feel free to send us a direct message.

This is good to know. It's one of those things I think Jeep should address in some way shape or form. Unfortunately, Jeep will simply ignore it, unless they start failing left and right.

My wife's Jeep has the same issues(I also have a 6spd and it feels perfect.)

Dealer refused to acknowledge the issue and because she has bigger wheels/tires we should regear.
I always planned on regearing, but what does our clutch pedal grind/squeak have to do with gearing?

Her clutch has felt different than mine from day one, but until it started squeaking inside the cab we never felt it was that big of a deal.
