Well... After many years I got a new Jeep! Excited about the purchase and ready to make it mine. I learned to drive in a '78 CJ5 and have long awaited the day I'd get to re-join the community.

The first mods I'm looking to make are the lift and wheels/tires. I'm seeing many different opinions and articles about what can and can't be done without re-gearing things. I'm looking to do the 4" super lift with king shocks on 20" wheels with 37" tires. The Jeep has the new 3.0 diesel and on the stock wheels it has the feel to it as if power will be no issue to spin the heavier wheels and tires. Has anyone installed 37"+ on their 3.0 without re-gearing?

Thanks!

Thanks! I actually watched that video twice over the last month. It seems that the 3.73 will push things just fine. I do spend time on more flat land but higher speeds at times 70-75mph. Looks like I'll find out one way or another soon.

If you're looking at 37" tires with stock gears, have a look at @Casey250 on YouTube.

Welcome from this day forward you are a Jeeple. The 3.0 will turn those 37’s easily....
The 20’s not so much.

First trip out. Sure wish the lift and tires had come in. Guess we’ll have to stick to the roads this time. Talk about a stuffed cargo area! North central Arkansas bound.

looks great and a great color! im sure the 3.0L with the 3.73 would handle 35 comfortably but 37" might be pushing it im guessing 4.10 would be pretty solid gearing for the 3L and 37's dont forget to re program the tire size in the computer. its hard on the trans if you dont. buddy of mine learned that the hard way lol

You should definitely wheel it! The Jeep itself is all is capability. Lift and larger rubber just enhances that capability. See what she can do this time, so you'll have a good base line to compare to on the next trip with mods.

Happy Jeeping!

First trip out experience:

Need/Want:
  1. GPS based navigation with probable Ipad setup.
  2. Rock guards of some type to protect paint on the doors(mainly the hinges).
Really pleased with:
  1. Fuel efficiency. I know this will decrease when lifted and 37s are installed but it was impressive on the stock setup.
  2. Power provided by the 3.0 diesel. Impressive on road and off-road.
We averaged 32.3 mpg on the way up to Arkansas and finished the trip at 29.9 mpg after trail riding, climbing the hills, idling for periods of time, etc. Not bad... This is with a new steel bumper and winch, 4 persons, and about 1,000 pounds of gear.

Thanks for the info! I looked into it but appears that I'm not eligible due to none of the companies that I'm "a member of" being listed.
