I have a GoPro 8, GoPro 10, and GoPro Max. I use various mounting solutions because watching a video from one perspective (ie. dashboard only) is kind of boring. So I have a Bulletproof RubiGrid for dash cam view (and my phone mount). I have Amazon magnet mounts that work great for attaching to the steel bumpers or underneath (like oil pan) for view of crawling over rocks. I also have a SeaSucker suction mount for side mount on the windows or side panels. All work great together.

I am considering selling my GoPro 8 (and all the accessories) because it doesn't record in 4k. It just looks weird when a video goes from crisp 4k from the GP 10 to the less 1080p from the GP 8. Let me know if anyone is interested in it and I can list out everything with a price.
How have you found is best to utilize the Max? Do you use 360 at all?

Haven't used it yet, but picked up GP's bluetooth control so I can use it to fire up the camera views at the same time, do you full time record on a trail, or use a method like that?

I've got a GoPro Hero 8 with various mounts on my Jeep and it works good, but most of the time, I find myself editing small snippets into short videos for my family or for sharing on Facebook or Instagram. The GoPro is kinda a pain in that scenario.

Nowadays, most of the time I use a Insta360 GO2 or Insta360 One X2. There are limitations on resolution and they work best in bright sunlight (plus, there is a little learning curve), but they are very convenient and videos from either camera can be combined into one on the phone editing app. Each one is in the neighborhood of the cost of a GoPro and each has their strength and weaknesses, but if I could only pick one, it would be the GO2. It's so handy and can be clipped to a hat brim, sticky mount, selfie stick, etc. Most of the time, I just use it with a velcro strap around my hand and it's the fastest, quickest method for me to catch a shot of opportunity that might be missed with a GoPro or other.

I specifically got it for the 360 feature. I used it either suction cupped to the hood or windows and used it to pan from a front view to side view to rear view. It's fun to play with. The negatives: Editing is hard because you have to edit in the GoPro software making keyframes and transition from view to view, then output that to a 2d video. And then there's the lack of 5k video. You can see some of the footage on my youTube.

I decided to go budget with the camera and ordered the Akaso 7000 camera

Camera - $60 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HGM33HG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and even though I have a cheap magnet phone holder which works great, I splurged for the Bulletpoint system here https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09Z47R2KD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

If anyone can wait - bulletpoint has 10% off from there site but I needed sooner.
Does the Akaso 7000 allow for the external power supply while running/used for recording?

I second this.

I purchased a good GoPro-type camera and a Bulletpoint mount for my iPhone and the camera. The camera shot good video but was a pain in the butt. I found that my iPhone shot BETTER video with BETTER stabilization than the camera, and it’s far easier to use. The video quality is good.

It comes with a USB that when connected to the PC - auto powers on. Seems like it can act as a webcam too haven't played with it too much as it only arrived yesterday

Looks good. on another note - do you use anything specific for editing software or just uploading to YT

I just uploaded it; I’m not trying to monetize my crappy videos ? You can do limited editing, like trimming and aspect ratio, on the native Photos app.

Also, you can use an iPhone-compatible flash drive to transfer videos from your iphone/ipad to a PC or Mac.

I only have recent experience with the GoPro 9 black so I can't make any comparisons to other units. But I have been dabbling in video and photography for quite a while and can make this generalized recommendation - don't put too much emphasis on really high recording resolutions (high pixel counts) unless you plan to use it.

Recording 4k video requires significantly more storage than 1080p, a more capable editing hardware, and in most cases it gets down converted to 1080p anyway.
My Hero 9 Black overheats and shuts down or locks up after about 20 minutes if I have the video quality set above 1080p.

Thanks, most of USB powered devices will power on when being plugged in power, and cameras might operate as a web cam. I would be really interested if it can do the recording, continuisly, while being powered by an external power (power pass-through door)...

Just a note from my experience with our Hero5, when plugged into the Jeep's USB-C it thinks it's connected to a computer. To record and charge, we use a seperate 12V adapter.

Yeah, that's interesting, my Garmin dashcam, every once in a while does the same, have to hit the button to cancel "connecting to computer" message...
