I had heard about some Jeeps having fire issues (I did address my recalls, related to the clutch plates overheating, btw) but never thought it would happen to me.

I loved my YK,JK, and my JL and had planned on my 18 JL lasting me several more years. We were headed out to NY when we lost power after a loud bang and metal on metal sound underneath the Jeep.

We used our momentum to pull over and then came the smoke, followed by flames peeking out from under the hood. I used the on-board extinguisher to buy us time to get the important stuff out before the fire took control back.

Note the (lack of) water coming out of the fire truck in the 1st shot - they didn't have enough water to start the pump. Sigh. They had to back up to it and attempt to spill what they had, hence the truck actually touching my poor JL. Eventually, another truck arrived - and they had water. They were able to flood it out fairly quickly but it was obviously a total loss by that point.

A month on, I await my freshly-ordered 4xe JLRU.

Yours is the 3rd 2018 that I've known to have burnt in the past month. I'm so very sorry for your loss but glad everyone is ok. This just breaks my heart. Here's one we watched burn to the ground while on the trails in SMORR, Missouri. Thankfully we were able to pull off the trail but all we could was watch it burn. 6 fire extinguishers didn't touch it and the volunteer fire department was too far away. We are probably lucky we didn't burn the place down. 🤦🏽‍♀️ My other friend lost hers on the beach in Outer Banks. Said the same as you, heard a loud pop and next thing they know the Jeep was on fire. They weren't even driving, it was parked.

A lot more people are going to be carrying Fire Extinguishers now because of this story ; it also might make Stellantis take this manual transmission / dual mass flywheel design issue seriously.
Getting children, dogs, older people out of a burning vehicle is terrifying.
What will it take for Stellantis to FIX this Jeep Conflagration Roulette ??

No Mention of what motor you have so I’m guessing the 2.0 or manual trans ? When there’s no mention of it. screams agenda.

Honestly when you go hooking up lights on the bumpers, the good, extra power drawing devices including a winch and all the other little accessories I see burned in the photos you can't really blame Jeep for the carnage. It's likely you overheated your wires with all that stuff not properly setup or fused properly and caused this fire. I see it all the time on the trail, sorry but this should be a lesson for all of you wiring stuff up without understanding the potential implications of doing so. I'm guessing you are saying to yourself after your third fire, what am I doing wrong at this point.

I've never had a fire until this one.

I mentioned my other jeeps to make the point that I do and have loved Wranglers for my entire life.

I'm sorry about the JLs poor construction and quality and for your poor understanding.

Thankfully, you escaped with your lives. As a member of the Manual gearbox preservation society, I elected to go with an automatic on my JT. (Still going to get a fire extinguisher for it now.)
MGPS represent! My factory order is still a 6MT.
I didn't know about the manual issues when I ordered, but I still would have went with a manual anyway.

LMAO you can see the shifter in one of the pictures. Jeep only gives the manual with the 3.6, therefore he has a 3.6 with 6MT.
Also the very first sentence has the word clutch in it.

@J.Ferreira - the clutch in my JLUR went out about 2 months ago. Luckily no fire but as it's the 2nd time it's gone out I decided to trade it in. I ordered a 2023 Gladiator Rubi manual, and while I have no way of confirming this for sure, I was told by the service dept. at my dealership that in the 2023 models they rebuilt the clutch system to finally address these issues. I noticed you have a 2023 Willy's on order so thought I would share this. Again, no way to validate this info at this point, but fingers crossed it's true that they finally fixed it in the 2023 models.

Dude they parked and it blew? I'm wondering if it's the flywheel or something then? I can't imagine the clutch causing an issue when it isn't even spinning.

I agree! The insurance company doesn't want to spend the money to figure out what caused it. The picture above she just started to see a little smoke, didn't hear anything and nothing on the dash alerted her. She got off the trails and then the flames came. I don't have a photo of the beach one.

I sincerely hope that your service department knows what they're talking about.
Thanks!

Problem is even if Jeep fixed whatever was wrong with the clutch, they will never publicly admit it, because doing so would be them admitting the original OEM clutch has a major design flaw, and they would be liable for all the 2018 and up JL's with a stick to fix, which would be crazy expensive and take years to complete, so that def wont happen. Hence why I went ahead with the CF2, still waiting to get it back. I hope I didnt make a mistake replacing it at 20k miles with no issues yet but I couldnt drive around with the concern all the time...
