Maybe you Colorado folks can chime in - My wife and I both are recently retired and are wanting to move to Colorado to be closer to family (in Denver and Ft Collins). We currently live in a rural area of Kansas and really like the area between Lyons and Estes Park. It seems like more houses are popping up on the market and prices are coming down a little.

Our criteria for an ideal location is somewhat rural (We've looked at some homes around Pinewood Springs) but yet close (maybe 30 minute - 1 hour driving distance) to services like health care services, big box stores, family and of course, good Jeep trails). Good internet and cell coverage is desired also. Price of homes and cost of living is a consideration. also. We are RMNP junkies too - would love to possibly volunteer there.

Any of you Colorado folks want to chime in with some areas tat you have experience with, or might know of, that would be a good fit for us?

Colorado is very expensive and will be a shock to your retirement if you compare it to most of Kansas.

The area you mentioned has a lot of choices for living. Most will be on the upper end of income locations. Getting more difficult to be “rural“ but depending on your definition of that there is probably a lot of choices.

Good luck with your search. You are bucking the trend since colorado is now one of the top states that people are leaving. So probably if you wait prices will go down further when demand really dries up.
