My Jeep sits a lot and as many know the charging system is not very efficient for the two batteries. So I bought a Genius G3500 and GCP1 inlet plug. Both can be found on Amazon.

You will need to remove the factory airbox to start. I bought a piece of flat steel bar stock 1/8" x 3" x 36" at Menards, they were the cheapest I could fine, like $11.00. Piece below needs to be cut at a slight angle due to the location picked. Overall length is about 11.5" but it will shorten up after a 90* bend is put on it.

Bend a 90* in it on the narrow end so the bar will shorted up to around 10"

Had to cut this notch on the end after test fitting it, the welds on the Jeep were in the way. Sanded the bar down as well.

Another test fit. Drill and tap four 6/32 screw holes to secure charger.

Here you can see what factory screws I used to secure the mount. I did not need to buy longer ones. There is plenty of room under the hood here with it closed.

Now for the GCP1 inlet. You will have to remove some of the plastic retainers to remove the piece behind the wheel, I think there were 5 or 6. I also remove some retainers from the narrow piece between the bumper and grill so I could move it a little. Two retainers underneath and a screw holding up the front lower skid will have to come out. After that the plastic shield slides out pretty easy.

I used three 1" 8/32 screws with washers and locking nuts. I would have put some blue Loctite on them as well but did not have any. Everything is stainless.

Here is where I routed the charger cord under the airbox. I used a couple zip ties to keep everything in place.

The cords are just zip tied for now. I will pick up some retaining clips next time I am at the store for something more secure. I used 1 1/4" heat shrink but had to shave some material off the cord to fit. Then grip tape on the ends with electrical tape over that. Should be fine pressure washing in there.

Finished on the top. Also painted the steel mounting plate.

Very clean install, so the question is what dictates the term “ Parked A lot “ or “ Sits a lot” the reason I ask is my JL is a daily driver but I work a rotating DuPont schedule and once a month it sits for several days not driven, say 3-4 days so during that time I just pop the hood and put on my Deltran Smart Charger via a quick connect but only do it the one time a month so is that enough given the charging system design ?

The rest of my off times during that same month the idle times vary from 1-3 days so my thinking is the once a month to recondition/fully charge is enough but if that’s incorrect please let me know.

Great install. We did that ones bigger brother and it was hard finding a space for it to fit! Knocked it out of the park.

Yeah, something like that is not a bad idea.
Something like a "remove before flight" ribbon on the steering wheel or shifter might work. I have the cold weather package on mine with the block heater, so I may look for something like that, too.

I found two types. One is small and has a round clip. Maybe a zip tie or something like that could give it a larger loop for the shift knob or a dash knob.

The other is a larger ribbon. Maybe just a clip for the steering wheel would work.

Amazon has even more options.

Mine sits for 3 or 4 days every week at least. Sometimes I only use it on the weekends. I plug it in every time I park because I know the ESS won't engage if it sits for a couple days. I am one that prefers the gas savings from it and was my main motivation for the install.

Are you into aviation? I would not have thought of something like that.

Yeah, I'm an old 51 now, but I was an active private pilot from 16 until about 23. Since then I just catch the occasional right seat if a freind or an opportunity arises. I'm still an aviation nut, though, to the bone!

Mine sits for 2 to 3 weeks at a time at the airport and never an issue to engage. I think you have something else going on, perhaps a bad battery?

I thought so too. Dealer tested it and found nothing wrong. I think what may happen is when I do drive its often only a 10-15 min ride. So over time the battery depletes.

Could be. I'm 60 to 90 minutes to the airport on the highway so likely fully topped up by the time I arrive to park.

This is exactly what I plan to do with the engine block heater; hardwire the plug to the bumper then transfer a "remove before firing" flag between the extension cord and the steering wheel as a visual reminder.

Looks like you have the 2.0T. You probably have eTorque which has a different ESS battery then the 3.6.
