Just made a trip from Jackson, MS to Atlanta, GA. Squeezed this out of my JLU Sahara:

Hit some of the nastiest weather I have ever seen in Birmingham, which led to some traffic. Would have been well north of 26 if not for that.

Maybe there's a method to the madness of that tall gearing on the 6MT, combined with the non-Rubicon axle ratios.

I'm looking forward to the 25mpg rating on the 2 door 6MT I ordered. I think, for the hell of it, I'm gonna try to hypermile it once, and shoot for 30mpg on a future trip. At 55mph or so, no A/C, it just might be possible.

When stock, mine would do 27 on a trip like that. I agree, very impressive. On a YJ or TJ these numbers would have been a dream.

My buddy put 36's on his '92 YJ back in the day. From that day on, it got 10.0mpg if you drove it nicely.

Yea... I made the whole trip between 65 and 70 mph in 6th gear (m/t), which was painful enough. I’m sure you could get 500+ out of a tank, but that distance at 55-60 would be tough.

A little over 6500 miles here - averaging exactly 21 mpg with my JLUS. Manual transmission, stock AT tires, and 2.5 RC lift.

I know it couldn’t be done all the time but I took the doors off on Thursday and have gotten an extra MPG or two out of the borrowed JLUS.

Easy enough to do... Just start you test at Brighton and end it at Wasatch Blvd.

Many years ago, I made that trip on basically fumes... Turned the engine off and coasted a good way down... The estimated DTE was reading 50+ miles when I was going up there, but it was telling me 0 when I got ready to leave.

Yeah, the JL definitely appears to be geared to maximize MPG in the higher ends of speed.

There is something strange to me about the more gasoline I use (i.e. traveling on highways where I consume more fuel per unit of time) the better gas mileage I get.;)

It's more a function of wind resistance and whether you are having to change speed often. A steady speed on flat terrain is probably best for fuel consumption. Wind resistance increases in proportion to the square of the change in speed (i.e. if you double the speed, you should be looking at around 4 times the wind resistance). It's also possible that different engine designs will have their most efficient power settings (RPMs) at different places and if you are lucky, the gearing of your vehicle will match that at the speed you are wanting to go.

But, we need to remember, we're talking about Wranglers here and they have the aerodynamics of a brick. There's only so much you can do with that.

I had to stop looking at mine. I drive almost all city, with my afternoons during rush hour. It's currently 109, so ESS is not going to kick in and help. Oh well - I drive like 8 miles a day and my commute is about to get shorter. And I love my Jeep and hated my stupid car, so there's that.

Extremely happy with mine so far - got 425 miles out of the first tank and could only squeeze in 17.7 gallons in. 24 MPG is pretty darn good for a brand-new JLU. Granted, that is 90% 2 lane highway driving at 55-60 mph.
