. . . realizing each day–
Looking for photos and suggestions—

We are adding on to our 50 year old two car garage with 7' foot door, no man door. The addition is 28' by 40' with 10' plate and 4:12 rafters and an 18' by 8' door. Once almost dried in we'll pull the roof off the existing garage reframe to raise 8' plate to 10', existing 16' by 7' door to 8' tall and add a man door. Our Grand Cherokee and the kayak trailer will rest in the 'old' section, and the JLURXR and Hiker Trailer in the new. Shop and storage will all be in the new.

1— I really like the open space, though wondering if we should add a 'room' on the storage side to create 'attic' storage (wouldn't need the collar ties in that section) for the seasonal gear and the nick-knacks that my better half will add in.

2— Thinking about old style barn doors that slide to the side rather than roll ups so we can hoist the top and doors up keeping the walls open for tools, bench and such.

What would you add to your garage/shop if you could? Post a photograph or a thought, we could use your help—

2 post lift.
I like that idea, but we didn't add pier locations in the slab foundation and would have had to have at least a 14' plate height I think. Good suggestion though, keep them coming—

That's not a garage, it's a warehouse lol.
We just put down an epoxy floor in our garage.

Post pics when it's done.
Color me jealous. Very nice.
With the sun and wild lightning-hail storms we get gotta keep the toys safe.

That is the plan, the photos will include some great suggestions we get here, too. Thanks for the help—

Definitely need the slab to be thick enough. My lift only required 4” of thickness. Also, there are 2 posts with bottom link instead of top that only need 9’ of ceiling clearance if I remember right. You can also go portable 4 post

Doesn't your vehicle stick up above that ceiling height? How often do you use your lift?

The bottom of the collar ties are 13'AFF so, it might all fit? Iam planning to get a top hoist like the Harken and looking for a door rack I can hoist as well. But you have me thinking about a lift now—

I have 2 friends that each have bottom linked 2-post lifts. Not sure how thick the concrete is under them, but the lift itself is probably 9’ high. So yea, depending on your ceiling height, you won’t be able to lift high enough to walk under. It’ll maybe get the bottom of your vehicle up 2-4 feet. Take some measurements, depending on what you need/want, it may be worth it.

Definitely put at least a half bath in there. If there’s room, build out a little space for a small room with seating, AC, and a TV.

Yeah, you may not be able to walk under it but rolling around on a stool sure beats shooting around on a creeper.

MaxJax, for sure. No foot print until you need it. Portable 2 post. I’ve used this for almost 5 years or so.

I’m also a +1 to floor covering. Polyaspartic is what I used. Better than epoxy, for sure.
