I think this falls into the same category as what Apple does. They come in to the game late with a lot of tech, and assume that their customers will not have paid attention to areas of the market where these things already existed.

And yeah, paradigm breaker is a bit strong.

Neat marginally-related fact: a number of Cruise ships are also paradigm breakers- they charge batteries that drive electric propulsion systems.
Hell even HMS Elizabeth is an aircraft carrier that do the same thing.

Bmw would like a word, they had it in the i3 range extender version. Bev with small motor powering a generator to maintain battery charge.
I'll consider myself corrected however scooter engine with two gallons of gas isn't much of a range extender.

I mean it was an extra 100 miles for 2 gallons of gas though which was pretty impressive.

Yep...along with skyrocketing prices and the lack of a bare bones off-road model, this news confirms that my JL is likely the last Jeep product I'll ever buy...as if Stellantis cares.

The REPB sounds like it would be similar to how a locomotive works. The gas engine would be constantly charging the batteries for electric power or the generator itself would provide electricity for propulsion. No thanks, massive electronic complexity.

If this is how things are progressing, looks like my next vehicle will be a 3/4 truck. I have no, none, zero interest in a battery driven Jeep without solid axles. Putting electric motors at the wheels means no solid axles. Jeep, and all of the other auto manufacturers can't even put reliable 12v batteries in ICE vehicles, end the electronics aren't much better. Now, imagine them trying to market cars that rely solely on batteries and electronics.

Taveras still doesn't understand the US market. He believes that the vast majority of people are concerned about their carbon footprints. He believes the vehicles are expressions of lifestyle, as if we choose to wear a vehicle as fashion. All of those things are true, to a point. However, here in the US, we like to be able to choose to drive what we want, how we want, where we want, when we want. The rest of the world doesn't understand or appreciate the freedom we have here. Most have never been here and are on the outside looking in via our pop culture. I don't think EVs are bad, they have a place in the market. I don't think ICE vehicles are bad, and they have a greater place in the market. To take the ICE vehicle away is a mistake. The only way it can work at all is if the other manufacturers are all on the same sheet of music, or if it becomes the law. In our society, the free market should decide. It seems lately though as if our country has been fundamentally changed from what it once was just a decade or two ago.

All of that having been said, there was no mention of the ICE option being dropped. However, if the J70 (blatant ripoff of Toyota's FJ70 name) is designed as stated, then there would be no provision for a traditional ICE. Maybe they will continue to build the JL as a Wrangler Classic, like they did with Ram pickups for 5 years after the new generation came out.

maybe double the electric range?

I would hope! If they can get to 50 mile range that would be perfect for me

So the new iteration of the Wrangler is going to be the J70, not the JM?
That's what it looks like, maybe that's an internal code with Stellantis. Not very creative though. Toyota still sells an FJ70 in other parts of the world.

Looks like the Wrangler will have it's formula changed for the first time. This, along with what they are doing with Ram and Dodge, further strengthens my resolve that Stellantis has no idea how to deal with the North American side of their business.

Im wondering how this is a paradigm breaker when the Chevy Volt did that years ago and was the perfect middle step from hybrid to full electric before they axed it.
The pacifica is currently this same style too. The 3.6 in the Pacifica PHEV has no ability to move the wheels
