Update - My brake calipers were causing the squeak. Noticed when I applied the brakes going over bumps that would 100% cause the squeak, there was no squeak. Dealership was able to duplicate the issue pushing it with their hand. Cleaned/lubed it up, no more squeak. =)
Edit - Squeaking now occurs at 15+ MPH. Have not had a chance to troubleshoot it yet. Going to play with it this weekend.
Hello. So I enjoy driving my Jeep around with my windows down. However, a certain noise from somewhere under the front end of Jeep that sounds like a bird is chirping/dying has made such a pleasure rather annoying.
Anytime I am getting close to 40+ MPH (I've heard it as low as 30) and I am going over a road that isn't smooth or well maintained, I can hear a chirping like noise from both the passenger window and drive side window from somewhere underneath the vehicle near the axle. Every little bump I hit turns into a little chirping orchestra. I only hear the noise when I hit a bump or the road makes the Jeep vibrate due to being uneven. I'd like to say it is more dominate on the passenger side but I've heard it pretty loud on both sides, making me think it is somewhere in the middle. Now, if I am going slower (less than 30) over any bump, big or small, there is no chirp. If the road is nice and smooth, regardless of speed, no chirp. The sound can only be duplicated moving forward around 40+ MPH over slightly bumpy roads. As a result, this makes finding the problem difficult.
I am not super proficient with maintaining cars but still I decided to take my GoPro and attach it underneath to see if I could better isolate the issue. I couldn't see anything out of place. I also put my hands on everything and again, nothing felt loose. I took it to a dealership (I am under warranty) and they were able to duplicate the chirping sound under the conditions I provided above. However, the mechanic at the shop (who is their Jeep specialist) put his hands on every single bolt and component under the engine. He said there is nothing loose, failing, out-of-spec/torque, or unsafe about the vehicle. He could not duplicate the noise while it was jacked up but when he drove it and heard it, he could say with confidence it is something underneath the engine bay. However, since everything looked good underneath and there was no safety concern, I would just have to deal with it being a noise.
Personally, I don't want to deal with this noise as it is rather annoying. He said he has seen this problem before but all he could do is chuck parts at it and hoping something worked. He said based on what he has seen previously, he never managed to make the noise go away and it was just a lot of parts of labor wasted. Considering I am at just shy of 5k miles and I don't want to replace entire components that came from the factory new, I took the Jeep back. The dealership said if it gets worse, bring it back. My Jeep is completely stock 2022 JLUR.
My plan right now is to attach my GoPro at various places to hopefully better isolate the exact location the chirping is coming from. Problem is, it is quite windy where I live so that may be difficult. I wanted to reach out to the community to see if anyone else may have experienced this or has any input on where I can begin. Maybe something more to provide the dealership because as it stands, I feel unless I can better find the source of the noise, there is not much the dealership can do for me and I don't want them loading their parts shotgun and shooting randomly.
I did read a previous post with a similar issue. They mentioned it was their brakes causing the issue but considering I hear it from both sides, braking itself doesn't have any issues, and the problem occurs when I am just on cruise control down a highway, I don't think that would be it. I did bring that up to the dealership however and he said my brakes looked fine and the wheels, when spun, did not catch or bind on anything. Regardless, anyone got any idea? Thanks for your time.
