Turbo charged 4 cylinders in a toyota is my concern. only time will tell i guess
Is there a history I don't know about?

Personally I'd much rather an under stressed v8 to these turbo hybrid systems, even with the fuel economy differences. I believe that chasing emissions to near 0 and improving fuel economy all while having a horsepower war has made things more expensive to purchase, less reliable to run, and more expensive to repair. All things I do not like. Hell I'd never consider a diesel powered anything today because I believe the EPA has created too many issues with the emissions requirements, ruining what I once believed to be one of the most reliable engine setups you could buy. But I try to realize the world is moving on and I need to go with it. EVs offer a bright future in my eyes (seems less complicated and cheaper to run) but for my needs the battery tech isn't there yet. Hopefully by the time I get around to needing a new vehicle we will have gotten through this transitional period.

This is just my personal preference. Toyota engines have always been boring, but at least they were reliable. Now they will be boring, and maybe not so reliable, again only time will tell. I just feel like this push for Net Zero emissions and push for EVs is just killing modern vehicles. Again its just my feelings. I know there is a large majority that welcome the change. I do not. And this is coming from someone who values environmental protections.

What makes the new engine options sound terrible to you? Every Land Cruiser will be powered by a 2.4L 4 cylinder turbo hybrid with 326 hp and 465 lb/ft, capable of towing 6,000 lbs. On paper, to me, those seem like good numbers and I'm expecting good fuel economy numbers to go along with it. With the added complexity I do wonder about reliability and even with Toyota I take a time will tell approach on it, but other than that complexity I'm not immediately seeing cause for concern on this engine.

My opinion is if it needs a turbo engine is not big enough. Just saying

A few years ago didn’t they have
My Guess if this does make to production, it would be smaller than a wrangler/bronco. Maybe an actual compact off roader?

Or who knows, maybe that silhouette is the new revolutionary design for the 4Runner (highly unlikely)...
Didn’t they have a concept of a new fj years ago? Looked like a Subaru cross trek ?? Where the headlight or some shit came out like a flashlight?? Idk ?‍♂
