Just dropped off my JLUR for its first dealer visit @ about 20K miles.

Armed with a list of star cases and TSBs. The service writer seemed very receptive to handling the wandering steering.... hopefully getting track bar and steering box. They had the V41 in stock. using my first free oil change since its there.

Also getting the noisy AC fan, leaky rear window wash nozzle, creaking front doors, and my key fob is peeling apart.

Fingers crossed the Techs will actually do the troubleshooting and resolve the steering issue!

Second dealer visit yesterday. My 1st visit was at 195 miles and brought it in on a flatbed with transmission issues, after 4 days they replaced the Transmission valve body. This time it is the steering, excessive steering wheel play and wandering at 740 miles. Got it back and was told it was all checked out and all is normal. They did do an alignment and I see they dropped the front tires to 37 and back to 38, but it must be the new normal they are talking about. It still pulls to the right, has play in the steering wheel and wanders all over the road.

Dont let them get away with that. If the steering issue is as bad as mine its unacceptable. I did the same as you and then tried to get use to it thinking I would but now with 4k miles I cant handle it anymore. Its at the dealer now a third time (also 3rd dealer location). The service manager seems to want to help and is working with Jeep folks to trouble shoot. I dont have the best understanding of steering but seems a track bar would not affect the play in steering. It seems to be the link between the steering wheel and the steering box.

Still no word from dealer...did get a brand new Durango loaner with only 95 miles on it, a surprisingly nice car.

And boy does it drive (steer) amazingly better than the Rubicon!

Sorry to hear of the trouble you are experiencing with your Wrangler, Marker56. If youā€™re willing to visit a different dealer for a second opinion, weā€™d be happy to escalate a case on your behalf and connect you with a case specialist who can work alongside your dealer to find a potential solution. Please send us a PM if this would be of interest.

Yeah, I believe it is the drag link. I brought mine to the dealership 3 times and they said everything was fine. My mechanic I've been going to for over 10 years was nice enough to go for a test drive with me and put it up on the lift. He instantly noticed the drag link end on the pitman arm was loose. I just brought it to the dealership yesterday to have the V41 recall done and told them what my mechanic said. They call me to tell me it's ready to be picked up and again they tell me everything was tight underneath. I drive it home and it's still bump steering over pot holes and wandering to the left and right.

Still absolutely no word from the dealer. Racking up the miles on the Durango though. Maybe tomorrow I'll hear something. I'm leaving for vacation Friday morning early, wonder if I'll be driving the Durango LOL, that trip alone will add 1400 miles, and 10 days away.

Today... crickets... guess I have to CALL THEM!

In all of my years of running large dealership service departments, I would consider firing a service writer for allowing this much time to go by without updating the customer. Pathetic.

This is definitely not what we expect for our customers, bikenutty. Please know that we would be more than happy to have this documented and connect you with a case specialist for an additional layer of assistance for the rest of the process. Please follow up with us via PM to proceed in this manner.

Tried a new dealer. This time the service manager drove the vehicle. He agreed the steering wheel was not centered. watching him drive it on smooth pavement I could see him making constant adjustments. He did start down the path of a Jeep thing and is it your first Jeep but never completed the thought.
Took it in the back and returned it to me with 2 hours. The free play is still there but it is less exaggerated with out having to have the steering wheel cocked the left to go straight.

Customer Care asked if I was taking it back to the dealer to get it resolved. My question is will it get resolved? It has been going on since the JL release and I am reading it still exists in the 2020.

well...

picked up the Jeep yesterday morning. things done:
U62 recall
V41 recall
key fob was coming apart/replaced
wandering steering - dealer verified complaint! replaced the joint at the pitman arm, replaced track bar, adjusted toe in(no specs were given) reported to drive better but still not fixed, performed TSB 08-02-18.
performed TSB 23-040-18 (rear washer drip)
loud blower TSB 18-041-18 same as job #1
free oil change, 6 qts of oil listed on WO. Haven't checked it yet.
creaking doors not repaired, door stops are on order.

The steering is still not perfect, it wanders a little. but it is significantly improved and holds a straight line much longer. Guess I'll have to take it back for that when the door stops arrive. Steering gear next? I hope. Even the wife was surprised that she can relax a little when driving down the highway, no more white knuckle driving.

Time to add a 3.5" lift Maximus-3 lift kit with Falcon SP2 3.3 shocks.
