Why are they making a hybrid before a hemi or a diesel? I believe jeepers want those before a hybrid, they want torque and enough power to push 37"s. That's my opinion
Why hybrid? CAFE standards. Also known as government interference. Not because of free market forces.

Why no diesel yet? Their diesel is experiencing some teething problems which should come as no surprise to anyone being a wholly designed/developed/built Fiat motor.

Are you saying in order to go downhill you'll have to have gone uphill? Of course this is true, but "downhill" shouldn't have been listed as a battery deplenisher when it's actually a replenisher.
This is an extreme example, but a friend climbed Mt Washington in his electric Honda Fit. Coming back down he completely charged his battery back to full while driving past everyone with overheating brakes.
No not at all...if your going down a hill not using brakes and allowing the motor to bring you down your going to be using the equal amount of power.

Have you never gone down a hill without using brakes?? Think of hill assist

I did some rough math for you since you havent yet.

You drive 15 miles a day to/from work.

On a TERRIBLE day, that's a gallon a day.

At 2.00 a gallon, you're spending 542.00 on gas per year.

5 years of commuting costs adds up to 2710 dollars..

I can PROMISE you that the hybrid option costs more than 2700.00.

So preach about saving the planet if you like, but it's not going to save you any money.
~14000 miles per year
683 gallons based off of a 20.5 MPG average
$1707.50 for fuel bases off of 2.50 per gallon here where I live.
$8537.50 over the 5 years you mentioned.

Your assumptions about me are a little off, and I doubt it will be a $9000 up-charge.

I also want to repeat something I said earlier, which is that if the Jeep comes with the same battery pack as the Pacifica it's not going to get nearly as much range due to aerodynamics, rolling resistance and weight.

It doesnt cost that much to drive 16miles(your daily commute, maybe$1.30 in gas)

To charge a large battery for a vehicle you dont think electricity would be more than that?!
$1.30 for 16 miles? Damn gas must be cheap were you are. :P

it's $2.50ish here and I get about 17-18mpg depending on traffic.

You keep saying would use less fuel...that's not correct

Takes fuel to make electricity..your paying for it either way.
Yes but it takes less fuel to produce the equivalent electrical energy. I keep saying that.

Because its a more efficient process. As I've stated before the equivalent energy used to charge the battery is not equal either monetarily or fuel consumed to that of using a gallon and a half (or more) of gasoline to drive the 32 mile range. And even at that point, if I never plugged it in, it would still use less fuel than a non hybrid Jeep. I'm averaging around 20.5 at the moment, and adding a hybrid system should pump that number up substantially.

Either way, plug in or not, If I can use less fuel in my daily drive, I'm for it. Its why the JL got my attention when the JK did not.
You are not using less fuel if it takes fuel to make it??

Puzzled by your reponses

Your entire premise is that you can drive to/from work on all electric. I was using the numbers you gave me. You simply aren't going to drive 14000 miles on electricity alone.

I don't understand what the argument is, they are not ONLY making the hybrid, it's just an option like other things.

Some of you guys must still have carburetors, hand crank starters, gas lamp headlights since you don't think advancements should ever happen. :)

Yes, but I also take my Jeep other places apart from work. Its my daily driver. I've done about 14000 miles in the year I've had my Jeep and so I corrected some of your assumptions.

I'm all for free market forces driving electric/hybrid sales. It's really neat technology in my opinion.
