I think Jeep really lost it when they started making cars with the Jeep name/
I actually liked the Patriot. It reminded me of the XJ Cherokee much more than the current Cherokee.

I'm not gonna disagree. FCA is easily the worst. That doesn't mean I don't love my Wrangler.

Looks like they are in process testing the Wrangler at the mall parking lot.

Here is an excerpt: “While handling has been improved, the ride is stiff and jiggly, and wind noise is still abundant at highway speeds“ :headbang:

The Wrangler has not been “gentrified” like the ugly Grand Cherokee executive sled with its “Terrain Selection Buttons”.:puke:

Here’s the link:

Are you referring to the "Sport", "Track", "SRT" and "LAUNCH" selection buttons in the Grand Cherokee? Wouldn't be so quick to call them "gentrified"...!

I had a Liberty for 14 years. 195,000 miles and no major breakdowns. It may have been an exception to the rule, but if that deer had not ran out in front of me, I’d still be driving it and wouldn’t have been an early adopter of the JL. With that said...I sure do like my JLUR.
I still have a 2004 Liberty sport with 190,000, no issues except rust lol. I love my JLUR also...

i am still driving a o3 liberty (5 speed) with almost 115K and still the original clutch. I have had no major issues and will still use it for a daily driver once I get my JL Wrangler. It has been nothing but a dependable vehicle. Maybe you had a bad liberty but mine is great.
My 04 Liberty has 190,000... I changed the clutch at 180,000 because the pilot bearing was worn out. The clutch could have gone for another 100,000. But the pilot bearing was in the clutch kit I bought for $250. Not too many 5 speeds out there but we bought it new. Still rolling!

My take on the Consumer Reports comments is this: if FCA were to address the specific objections from the article would that make for a better selling Wrangler. Based on what I read, no. In fact, the criticisms are largely a function of what makes the Wrangler the purest “Jeep” of the entire Jeep product portfolio. People buy Wranglers for what they are, NOT for what they are not. The Wrangler is more that a product, it’s an icon. It’s this uniqueness that makes it impossible to categorize. CR is trying to put a square peg in a round hole when consumers actually want a square peg.

Consumer Reports is only useful if you are looking for an appliance to get you from point A to point B. They have no categories for special purpose vehicles such as a Wrangler. They also list Alfa Romeo on their "worst" list while Motor Trend gave the Giulia model their car of the year award. and the Stelvio was a close second to the SUV of the year award. I have an Alfa Stelvio that is a fantastic trouble free vehicle. They didn't like the fact that the stop start is on the steering wheel while that is actually a very logical place for it. Consumer Reports is very biased in my opinion and doesn't like anything new or innovative.

Consumer Reports named the 10 worst car brands of 2018. FCA had a rough year: #1 Fiat, #2 Jeep, #4 Alfa Romeo, #8 Dodge, and #9 Ram on the list of 10 worst.

So specifically which Jeep model do you think is weighing the Jeep brand down? Surely it can’t be our JLs! Right?!
I find it amazing that Jeep Wranglers continue to post in the top three resale values for used vehicles, are beloved by devoted fans over multiple variations and years (for us, 2012 and 2013 Saharas, 2014 Rubicon Xs, and now his and hers 2018 Wrangler Rubicons), outperform anything that comes close, etc. etc. and Consumer Reports lists it as one of the 10 worst car brands. It is just patently ridiculous. We just traded in our two 2014 Rubicons and got 71% of our money back after four years and 85,000 combined absolutely trouble free miles. Consumer Reports has lost all credibility in my book.

my local garage guy aka alignment specialist mentioned the poor quality + many repairs on newer models, but noted the typical army style jeeps not included!! army style jeeps like many convertible cars are not bought for luxury but their fun + off-road capabilities.

It's not even a particular model. One would have to live under a rock to not know about FCA quality. As you highlighted yourself, it is not a coincidence that 80+% of the holdings under the FCA umbrella stumble in ratings.

Per the USA today article I read: link
"Fiat Chrysler spokesman Berj Alexanian said there's a disconnect between what customers want and how Consumer Reports rates its vehicles. He said that in the case of the outgoing Jeep Wrangler, Consumer Reports gave it a low score even as customers clamored for it. "At the end of the day, we serve our customers," he said."

We all love our Jeeps, albeit they have regularly been in this top ten list. It is unfortunate, but I agree that CR's ratings aren't really in line with how WE rate Jeeps.
Yup...Jeep gets dinged for things that make them better off-road.

And to the reliability...well...people do use these things...so...guess what...they get in the shop more often.

I've yet to have a serious issue that wasn't related to something I broke on my own.

Only thing bugging me right now is a stupid water leak on the b pillars and a thermostat I need to change. Oh the noes...

Combined with the appearance of their redesign that tends to be less product evaluations and more opinion pieces about getting the government to take better care of us. They moved much of their evaluation data to the website, which surprise, surprise- is not included in your subscription and is an extra fee. I will not be renewing...
