Cmon, this is the sort of stuff that “traditional” car companies are supposed to be good at while upstarts like Tesla are supposed to be amateurish. Or could just be a proxy war played out as a PR ploy to gain leverage for closed door negotiations. Corporate America willingly ceded its manufacturing ecosystem. A while back I had to source some special material to be formed into an unusual shape for use in a high tech medical application. Had to go to an aerospace materials company in China because no US company could even come close to even considering the job.
PSA (Peugeot) is essentially buying out FCA and renaming the company Stellantis. The contractor may be trying to take advantage of language in the contract to leverage a more lucrative agreement.
Sounds like Biden is alredy biting them in the arse, sounds like someone at FCA decided the engine mix needs to be more 2.0T centric for gas mileage, so switch the new plant to 2.0T from intended V6 production which requires a delay of 9 more months, but someone forgot they still need V6 blocks. Guess they could in short term ramp up 5.7s in the Grands, ie more Trailhawks and Overlands, ditto Durangos and Rams and save the V6 for Wranglers.
