Failed emissions - has this happened to you?

Im waiting for my JLUR to arrive. My dealer took it to get the smog check done and said it failed. It’s got less than 100 miles on the odometer. They said it may be due to not having enough miles on the computer. I’ve had this happen to my current car when I cleared the codes on the ECU before doing a smog check but didn’t think this would happen with a new car. Thoughts?

Hasn’t happened but it can be as simple as a loose gas cap. Usually it is a problem with the catalytic converter or O2 sensor(s) - they should be able to diagnose it - I wouldn’t think it would be due to miles unless it is still burning off some of the OEM oils.

Certain components of the emission system have to run a check and report back it’s operational status. Commonly called a monitor. Sometimes the system doesn’t cooperate and the monitor didn’t run and when the emission check using the DLC commonly known as the OBD2 port is done, this can result in a failure. Very rare a emmision system actually fails on a new vehicle, but it does happen. I would lean towards a monitor hadn’t run yet.

I purchased it from another state about 3 hours away, hence the required smog check. Agreed, it’s stupid!

I live in CA...where everything involves more beurocracy and more money.

This is crazy, why does California think that their state should dictate Federal law?

No emissions testing in Louisiana - wouldn’t be any vehicles on the road if this was required. If your windows are tinted to dark when you go for your inspection just roll em down. Inspection in this state is just a money grabber.

Probably for the same reason northern states advocated for the abolishment of slavery; federal laws should start at the state level and work their way up to the SCOTUS. Such ideals are what the US constitution was founded on.

Not that this has anything to do with Jeeps. Jeeps are awesome!

Lived in baton rouge for 5 misrible years teaching at LSU. Moved to colorado last Aug. I had to have inspections including emission every year i was there. We had other faculty unable to pass emissions on their vehicles.
