Safety Thimble (the first to market decades ago) Master Pull, Factor 55 or who ever you choose, I feel a mechanism for keeping the hand of a distracted person from being sucked into a winch is a non-negotiable must have.
I like that the MasterPull with a stainless steel pin and cotter pin can be removed from the winching equation. It’s basically just a stop with a piece of webbing.

It's only overpriced if there is an equivalent available cheaper. If you can name another manufacturer of recovery gear that is (1) made in the USA, (2) actually engineered for safety in a way that provides confidence I won't mame or kill myself, and (3) is less expensive, please name them. I would be very interested.

A theoretical discussion that Factor 55 is earning excessive profit margins doesn't help me if there are no alternatives. And items made in China or less expensive (like a Smittybilt hitch recovery point I used to own), although cheaper, is not a competitor to the relevant market for Factor 55: People who want assurance of well-engineered, safe gear, with high quality manufacturing.

I spent $150 on a pair of made in USA jack stands once because I knew they would last a lifetime and I want that lifetime to be very long--it's my life on the line when I crawl under the Jeep.
I won't mame, kill myself because I know what I'm doing and think before I take actions. When I work under my Jeep I just fetch an old piece of firewood.

Meh, If I want something I buy it, I don’t much care what other people think, nor do I care what others do with their money, none of my fuking business….In this case, the 55 flat link is the way I wanted to set up my winch…. It was a lot cheaper 6 years ago, but if I needed one today, I’d buy it……. It’s only money, I’ll make more …;)

Looks like a lot of people that spent money on their Factor 55 "closed loop" hook are bashing the OP simply because it was his first post. Although he is correct with his assessment of the Factor 55 hook.

American made, quality equipment with a finish that lasts. You can buy a knock off from China if that’s all you can afford.
You don't have to buy anything, from China or elsewhere. What is wrong with the hook that comes with your Warn winch? If you bought a cheap knock off winch I suppose the hook might need upgraded, but I doubt it. But why save money by buying a Harbor Freight winch, and then waste money by buying a $250 hook?

Bot or Not, I agree with OP. Someone can convince me I’m wrong but I won one of their products at EJS some years ago. Installed it and then spent a month or so WTH the “ improvement “ was vs a hook.

The factory winch hooks rust, corrode and look like crap after one winter to start.
Personally I don’t like to have my winch line and hook attached to the bumper D ring all the time. Plain hooks just don’t tighten up flat against the fairlead like a flat link or UltraHook.
However, if you do buy a higher end Warn winch it will come with the Epic winch hook which on its own cost almost as much as Factor55 flatlink.

Warn and Factor 55 are the same company now right?

He is correct in his assessment for having an opinion on how other people spend money? Why do you have so much stress you need to opine on how someone else chooses to spend their money?

Man, did this thread go on a rollercoaster:

- Factor 55 is expensive
- STFU NERD
- Is this a bot?
