I've been asked to start a build thread so here we are.... ;)

This 2018 Jeep JL was purchased with one very specific reason in mind, and that was to cut it up to build a race car and compete in the Ultra4 Racing Series. Those of you that are familiar with Ultra4, you probably know that this is the series behind the King of the Hammers, the toughest 1 day off road race in the world.

For the past two years, we've been racing a 2014 Jeep JK in the 4600 class of Ultra4. For 2019, the goal is to run both the JK and the JL. Taking what we have learned over the past two seasons, the build plan was set and all we needed was a little push to go get a JL. That push came from our sponsors who heard about our little plan. The opportunity to put one of the first (if not the first) JL on a race track and be competitive was something they really wanted....probably more than us.

With partners on board for the build, we set out to find the cheapest JL we could find. Knowing we were going to remove just about everything on the Jeep, we didn't want to pay for stuff we didn't need. Unfortunately you can't buy a JL without full interior, tiny axles and wheels and tires....lol

Enough talk, onto the pictures....oh, one more thing. We have less than 110 days to complete the build, test and tune before heading out to Johnson Valley, CA for the 2019 King of the Hammers. :whew:

I have to admit, there were some tears seeing the cutting, haha.

It sounds like you're removing a huge amount of the original Jeep. Why not just find a wrecked one and start with that?

I love the fact that you guys trailered the brand new Jeep home. The poor thing couldn’t even stretch its legs before you chopped it up.
Can’t wait to see the final results!!

    Thanks for showing this Bill.
Looking forward to see this build progress!
    Good luck racing!!!

I see the JK didn’t have coil overs? Was that a budget reason or a technical preference?
What will set for on the JL?

I suspect it was so they didn’t have to register it for road use.

I actually looked for a month and all I could find was badly damaged 4dr JL's that would have cost too much to rebuild. Cheaper to buy a new 2dr.
