Good thread you guys have here :like:

After reading all messages, I understand that in a EU rubicon you can fit 285/70 R17 tires without rubbing and they are not wider than the fender flare on the outside... is my assumption correct?
I have the 295/70 17s there is no rubbing and they aren’t wider than the fender flares. So, yes, you can fit that size.

Hey there,
285/70 R17 is a stock tire size for the US Rubis, so in my understanding there must be zero rubbing issues or whatever. Assuming that EU Rubi's axles are a bit narrower, they shouldn't stick outside the fender as well. Go for it ;)

Thanks,
My concern was the narrower axles because 285 might rub against the chassis when you make a full turn? (hopefully not!)
And also the EU fenders are not as tall as the US Rubicons, so I don't know if at full flex the tire will contact the fenders.

285/75/17 does not rub at full turn.
cannot confirm for extreme articulation but the tests I had did not show any rubbing.

US Rubicon wheel arches, 35/1250R 17. AEV Pintler wheels, sumo spring bumpstops from my JK front and rear plus 30 mm block on the rear as much to protect the longer rear shocks as anything. No rubbing.

Guys, I don’t have a clue about modding jeeps and am interested for when I purchase.

what are the knock-on effects for changing wheel/tyres?

more wear/tear on axles, suspension etc etc? What about for cars going to do a lot of motorway miles.

do you then have to buy the taser thing to recalibrate?
what about warranty?

what exactly do you need to do?

many thanks in advance.

Ps. the below looks perfect to me.

@Elementad

A lot depends on your vehicle and where you are? If it’s a Rubicon with 4.1 axle ratios it can easily cope with 34 or 35” tall tyres and 37 aren’t terrible. I have 35s on my 2 dr 2.0 Turbo Rubicon and it flies.
There'll obviously be more wear and tear on suspension, steering and brakes with bigger tyres but the JL was obviously developed with the knowledge that many, many people were going to run 35” tyres and bigger.
Have a careful look at what tyres are easily available in the UK or Europe before working out your build. 285/75R17 are not...... They may cost £400-500+ each to airfreight from the US if you decide it’s the only tyre for you.
A 285/70R17, 315/70R17 or 35/1250R17 will be way less and available in many makes and patterns.
If your on 18” wheels and want to keep your original wheels then that’s different again.

Good luck:)

I have just fitted BFG 315/70 At2’s on stock rims with 1/2 inch load levellers from Tereflex and also fitted 20 mm hubcentric Eibach wheel spacers and no rubbing whatsoever. Also fitted a taser to change my wheel size and stop that annoying stop start. I will post photos when I take some. I did have to shave 4 mm off the wheel studs to get the fit read but if you fitted 1 inch spacers then there shouldn’t be a problem. By the way, there is no poke on the tyres/ fender flares for MOT ISSUES LATER ON. Maybe a bit with 1 inch spacers though
Finally got my tyres and new bumper fitted. No rubbing and I am quite pleased with the look.

I have mine on 315/70/17 or 34,4 inch BFG All Terrain. I have a levelling kit and a terraflex adjustable trackbar. I bought it when I realized that my Ruby got much more dirty at the driver side and then realized that the lift had shifted the tires a little bit to the drivers side.

I have on order a Rugged Ridge Snorkel along with a side steps and Spare tire delete kit along with some more stuff from Quadratec. Then I´m gonna install a ARB TWin Compressor under the passenger seat.

Here is my beauty ;-).

I am ready to order the BF A/T in 285 /70 R17.
Did you guys have to modify the rear tailgate to accommodate the spare tire with this size?
TIA
That tyre will work great with the stock wheels and stock spare wheel carrier.
