Back story: 18 JL, 8sp auto, base model, no options. Drove with the doors off for 4wks, got an ESS warning light after putting them back on. Traced the fault to a bent pin on the left side door harness connector. Straightened the pin, plugged the connector back in, warning light disappeared.
Yesterday, after 1wk of doors on, I get the ESS warning light again. Unplugged the left side, light disappeared. So... instead of mucking around troubleshooting the issue, can I just leave both harnesses unplugged when the doors are on? Other than no interior lighting when doors are opened, I can't think of any reason why this wouldn't cause any issues. Eventually, I'll take it in to the dealer for repair, but for the bulk of the summer it will have tube doors on (as soon as they get here, just ordered them) in place of the OEM doors so the wiring harnesses ard a non issue anyway.
