The ESS (electric start stop) system stopped working on my JLUR today. There are no warning displays and voltage is normal. Does anyone know what might be the cause of this?

What does the ESS display say on the driver console? If it says battery charging then it might be one or both of the batteries. The system knows when it is not working so I am guessing there is a message.

I had to scroll to the proper screen. It said battery charging. Took the vehicle to the dealer today. They tested both batteries and found that the main one was bad. Small ESS battery tested fine. Replaced the main battery under warranty and all is well again.

I'm having this exact issue right now. My battery has been in a charging status for the last 2 1/2 weeks. Going to the dealer on Tuesday...

I’m having the same issue. Did yours get fixed?

I did. The main battery needed to be replaced which surprised me. I would have thought it would be the smaller one. The technician said he’s actually done quite a few of these. It was done under warranty so nothing out of pocket for me.

The tech told me he’s seeing quite a bit of this. Not sure if it’s a bad batch of batteries or Jeep doesn’t have the ESS completely figured out yet. Could be a combination.

On my wife’s JLUR we noticed the ESS not working, no warning lights but ”battery charging” on EVIC. Dealer found a code that said the driver seat sensor bad and so they replaced it. Didn’t help, so took it back. They couldn’t find anything wrong so I reminded them that it simply wasn’t working so something was wrong. They looked some more and said both batteries perfect but the IBS needed to be replaced. After they did that, my wife saw that it was working. She promptly shut it off because she hates it😆. Hopefully the problem is solved.

My ESS has been in charging only mode for months. I'm going to take it in.

Dealer replaced the battery. All under warranty. I’m in the habit of turning ESS off at start up. So not sure how long it wasn’t working. But i asked them to take a look when i took it in for last oil change under the Jeep Wave Program. No hassle at all.
