I’m not sure, and could be wrong, buuuttttt, starting the motor and shutting off the motor of a diesel is bad right? I mean, I know that the gas version has only the wear on small components like, rings, and valves, and starter. So how about a diesel that has high compression, And a turbo (that needs to be cooled by oil)ect. How does that effect the longevity of these motors? Or does it not?
I’m not being sarcastic (and that’s hard for me) but I bought a $56k Jeep, and want to see it last. When my ESS kicks in, man my Jeep hates it! I usually then remember to disable it at that point.

I am not an engineer or a mechanic so take my opinion for what it's worth... Perhaps I'm old school but I do not want my diesel starting and stopping all of the time. I have owned several diesel engines in the last 15 years and always err on the side of letting them run rather than start/stop constantly. I disabled mine by removing the switch under the hood and am considering a better solution with the Tazer(or similar product) that will also account for the oversized tires, keeping the rear view camera on, etc. I wish that the system had a memory that would allow the user to set the system as a default to what they choose for their vehicle to do rather than mandating it to always reset when the Jeep is turned off.

It's beyond me why it's even on the diesel. Trying to squeeze more fuel economy at the price of starters or short run problems?? Get a Tazer and forget about it.

Get the JL Tazer and set it up and you will never have to worry about pushing that button again. I've had one on mine since March. The Tazer remembers your setting that was last used, so if ESS is turned off when the Jeep is turned off then it will start like that the next time.

I have no problem with ESS. On street driving when the turbo is not too hot, I prefer ESS. But I do turn ESS off when I drive on the highway or under load and come to an exit where I have to stop at a light. Stop/Start should have been programmed not to be active when the turbo is hot.

Be forewarned, if you disable the ESS, your fuel economy will suffer by .1%. Don't blame FCA when you're spending more at the pump. :)

Me? I threw caution to the wind and bought a Tazer.

If I remember correctly, the other one is the "hood open" sensor.

Already Have my Tazer on order. But the whole idea behind a Diesel having the ESS just seemed straight Idiotic to me. personally I think that whole system should be thrown out with all the other forms of Cali-Nazi-ism like DEF and high temp running diesels.
