ESS issue. New Jeep JL wrangler. Had 30 miles on it and going 50 miles per hour engine stopped. Dash message said put into park and press start. Dangerous place I had to pull off and restart engine. I now have 150 miles on the Jeep and when I stop and the engine shuts off - like at a light - the engine will randomly turn back on (my foot is definitely firmly on brake). Getting looked at Wednesday...wondering if anyone else had this happen? Hate the ESS system so far!

Not the first part, but the second is completely normal. It will start back up if you have the AC running or the stereo is drawing a lot of power. It’s meant to protect you from running the battery down. Having your foot down only prompts the option for it to turn off. From there, the battery is monitored to see if it needs to recharge.

I haven’t had the first problem...hopefully they can fix it...but the second part I’ve had happen to me and thought mine was faulty as well until I read the owner’s manual and there is a LONG list of reasons the ESS starts/won’t stop the engine. The “Start/Stop” menu in the cluster should give you some more insight as to why ESS is starting the engine back.

I have been pressing the "ESS off" button when I drive (I don't trust it). My wife uses the ESS and has had no issues after 300 miles of use. I did have an issue with Auto Park while maneuvering in the driveway with the door open/ajar. That was a learning experience...

I'm still trying to figure out who owns who in the Jeep vs owner relationship.:giggle:

I hate the ESS system so turn it off all the time, but on the times I have been in a hurry and forgot to turn it off it has worked as designed

Why didn’t Jeep put an E with a circle around it as the symbol for this system? Other wise I feel it is Automatic Start Stop.

As Shooting and Jeeping said, your second issue is the ESS working as programmed. Now as far as the engine shutting off on you when you're going 50 MPH, that is not something that should happen obviously and should be checked out as soon as possible but ESS should not be put to blame.

There's a few quirks to the system and once you get used to how it works I think you won't mind it as much.

I will not be participating in this forum as of 8/31/2018. It's been a fun ride, but it's time to move on. Take care. - Dustin

LOL. They don't want to have to reference "ASS" anywhere in their documentation or videos. Otherwise, the cooler talk here would be as follows:

You: "Hey, how do you like Jeep's new ASS?"
ME: "I think Jeep's ASS stinks!"

Thank you... yes, I see the restart function at light happens with A/C is on. Had read manual but really not detailed information how system works. The stalling at high speed only happened once.
