The EPA has published its fuel economy (MPG) numbers for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2-Door (JL) V6 model. Here are the EPA's MPG figures:

3.6L V6 Pentastar with 8-Speed Automatic Transmission (JL 2-door):
20 MPG combined (same as JLU 4-door)
18 MPG city (same as JLU 4-door)
23 MPG highway (same as JLU 4-door)

3.6L V6 Pentastar with 6-Speed Manual Transmission (JL 2-door):
20 MPG combined (1 MPG better than JLU 4-door)
17 MPG city (same as JLU 4-door)
25 MPG highway (2 MPG better than JLU 4-door)

These are both higher figures than the outgoing JK 2-door, which was rated at 18/17/21 (auto and manual).

So glad I got the V6 again. I like the motor, the transmission seems to make good use of power as well. (in wife's Grand Cherokee) .

Wow, 25mpg hwy on the manual !?!

Interesting considering the taller final overdrive gear of the ZF 8.
I would’ve thought just the opposite, despite both likely pushing against aerodynamic limits.

Interesting to see how that does against the 2.0T pushing into the wind, the manual 2dr may trump the turbo for range if those early release 2.0 numbers hold up.

There was no difference on the heavier Unlimited. Goes to show the effect of weight and possible Aero on driving the Brick at highway speeds.

Interesting though that the 8spd yielded the 1MPG more in the city, likely thanks to a little longer time able to hold first before needing to punch up?

For quick reference ( JL 6spd / JLU 6spd / JL 8spd / JLU 8spd )

PS, they got the tank size wrong on both the JL and JLU, the JKU is 22.5 Gallons, the JLU is 21.5 Gal, and the JL remains 18.5 Gallons.

Wow, 25mpg hwy on the manual !?!
And TFL claimed they were averaging that in their loaner JL Sahara with the 8-speed auto. That being the case, I'm hoping the numbers for the manual might be a little higher, too.

That 6-speed MPG must be a fluke - at speed I would not expect the 2-door to have THAT much less drag.

That said, as 6-speed buyer, its nice to hear what the updated v6 can do! :)

This direct comparison has nothing to do with frontal aerodynamics; the’re both the same. The difference is in transmissions; the manual is more efficient. This just goes to show there is still some hydraulic loss compared to a direct clutch/flywheel connection.

Read that again. I was comparing the 6-speed between the 2-door and the 4-door.

That comes down to the difference in more weight with the 4 door. But, the manual does get better mpg compared to the auto on the 2 door.

Anyway 25 mpg highway is phenomenal.
The wight impacts highway MPG but not city? Thats now how it works. It should be the reverse.

Telling you, something does not add up.

I’m also wondering how the EPA came up with these figures. It is kind of strange that the auto shows the same mpg for both 2 & 4 door.

I only looked at the difference with the manual between the two models.

So they expect me to believe a 2 door Rubicon on 33s is going to get the same MPG as a Sport on roller skate tires?

I agree, for highway I've always got a few MPG more or right on the money with all of my vehicles running 70-75MPH. These are good numbers for Wrangler and I would guess the 2.0L will get 1-2MPG more in the city, maybe 1 MPG more on highway.
