For those that off-road in the middle of nowhere - do you bring extra bolts, nuts, other hardware for just in case repairs? And if so, what sizes or likely to break hardware do you have in your kit? Thanks for any wisdom.

I don't carry spare nuts and bolts. The creative use of screwdrivers, zip ties and/or gorilla tape (all of which I carry) should be enough to get you off the trail.

That's what I'm telling myself anyway.

I'd never thought about it or considered it even. Too many different sizes to have one or more available if needed. That being said, I did lose a nut on the upper front sway bar sometime this past week while out on trails that I discovered yesterday. Which is odd as I checked and torqued everything prior to heading out to UT. Wouldn't hurt to have them. I'd likely keep some like sway bar and shock bolts. Not sure what else I'd consider even.

I have a box with common Xterra bolts and hardware. I'm going to have to retrofit it for the Wrangler when it shows up. I wonder if there's a lexicon of Wrangler specific bolt sizes/threads somewhere.

I do carry a small assortment, out of habit and caution, but it’s been decades since I used one.

In many situations you can remove a non-essential fastener from a different location temporarily to get back to civilization.

Opened thread to post this.
I haven’t personally lost one but I’ve read it enough on the forum that the front sway bolts were the first thing I thought of.

Instead of heavy bolts in different sizes and thread pitches, I usually carry the following that have a multitude of purposes...

Zip ties, ratchet straps, duck tape, gaffers tape, chicken wire, more zip ties, various glues and epoxy, more chicken wire, various types of gasket maker and did I mention ratchet straps?

Very rarely does a bolt or nut break. It’s what they are fastened to that breaks.

I do to an extent, mostly just stuff I had spares of and seem common enough on the Jeep. I never paid much attention to it. Other then,”hey this could be useful“ while jamming it somewhere I will most likely forget about when needed.

This ^.

If you break a truly important fastener, chances are that the fastener will be the least of your concerns.

Loctite and torque the critical stuff.
Duct tape & bailing wire will take care of the rest

I've only off-roaded my JL 2x since I bought it 5 months ago. The only 'hardware' I've brought is a tire valve stem cores. I air down by pulling the core, would hate for one to go flying and disappear into the nether without a replacement.

Not rock crawling, but similar situation. I used to race cars, and would carry some extra bolts and nuts. Usually just 1-2 of each type. I also saved any stock bolts I removed, and carried some of those with me.

I would carry 1-2 bolts in each common metric and SAE size and thread pitch. M10x1.25, M12x1.25, M12x1.5, M14x1.5, 3/8 fine thread, etc. As for lengths, I would always carry them in 3" lengths, knowing that I could cut them off to desired length (brought small dremel with lots of cutoff wheels). Also a couple nuts for each bolt size. And a few washers.

I kept it all in a single flat organizer tray that probably weighed 5lbs or so. And, yes, I used them on several occasions (sheared a panhard rod bolt, shock bolt loosened and fell out, etc.).
