Please keep us in the loop on a possible Rubicon tripGlad you got in ok.
Great time, with you and the crew out there.
I didn’t bother to take pics of the armor scratches, just got out the wire brush and rustoleum, and buffer wheel, I had put that off until after this trip. other than the hitch wiring bracket getting mangled, I took less damage than a typical SoCal big bear run with granite rocks there vs soft slick rock in moab, I think I actually painted over rock crushed to my bumper, I haven’t touched up the rancho dif skids yet, out of red paint.
I did order RK 4.5 springs for the rear and 3.5 for the front based on my lack of clearance with all the weight I normally carry.
My tailgate bolts had come a little loose, that was why it was scraping on bumper. We did some dunes in sand hollow Utah on the way to Moab.
I will come up with a suggested wheeling stop route out from Moab to the rubicon and we can try to get a group together,
I know a guy that lives close to Napa and he goes to the rubicon all the time, the only downside is he’s a Nissan guy, but his rig is cool enough it wound up in 4wd magazine, if we can make the timing work he will lead us through it.
Absolutely! Please keep us in the loop on a possible Rubicon trip
as mentioned, we also had a great time wheeling with the group and look forward to more trips together.
Looks like the parts work great, for the most part.Got home last night and got the Jeep on the lift this morning. Wanted to get a good look at everything saved and protected by our armor. We went with metalcloak underbelly skids and roam Offroad frame mounted rock rails.
Skids took several hits and scrapes, rock rails took one good hard direct hit and several scrapes/slides. One thing to mention is we ran into a bunch of rain on the way home and the roam rails are showing a little surface rust on the parts we scraped down to bare metal. That said, there’s several scrapes that the two stage power coat was able to hold up to the damage and still looks great. Everywhere else the finish is perfect.
After this trip were going to be making some changes. Will be adding
Installed dynomax muffler delete
AAL highline fender led lights
AAL or artec inner fenders front and rear (want to try AAL depends on timeframe)
Rockhard4x4 bolt in cage
Artec control arm weld on skids
Felt very comfortable scrapping and banging over just about any rocks. Nice not having to worry about tearing your belly or rocker panels up.

When did you get yours in? I’m telling y’all the coating on there is thick and no flaking off like other things we have had coated and damaged. I’m betting yours were before the swap overLooks like the parts work great, for the most part.
I also have the Roam sliders and love the design, but the powder coat is pretty thin. I prepped mine with red Scotch-brite for bedliner. The Scotch-brite easily scuffed right to bare metal on all the edges. I really had to be careful. I have dealt with many powder coated parts, as well as working with powder coating vendors in my years in manufacturing. This seems to be really thin. I had planned all along to overcoat with bedliner, so wasn't to upset, but I did expect a better coating. Don't get me wrong, I would still recommend the @ROAM sliders.
Thanks
Awesome. Wish you were closer to help you install! After wheeling with Bret and Lindsey last week in Moab and seeing how the Metal Cloak skids protected, they will be our next modification.
Man I’ll reach out to Anthony, not saying I’ll have better luck but at this point have a pretty good relationship with him and can call him if he doesn’t get back to merustyshakelford, have you heard when Roam will have the slim line rear bumper for sale? I've emailed Anthony but haven't heard back. I have one of their front bumpers and want to stay with them for the rear, but the wait is killing me! Pretty soon I'm going to have no choice but to go elsewhere.
Received the shipping email from Anthony March 18th. Took delivery a few days later. I'm pretty sure it's the latest process. Like I said, they are nice. I just think that anyone who is not going to have them coated with bed liner will be disappointed with the coating. Having said that, if you buy steps and expect even the best powder coating to hold up to being stepped on daily, you will be disappointed. Get the Roam sliders and coat them with bed liner. When did you get yours in? I’m telling y’all the coating on there is thick and no flaking off like other things we have had coated and damaged. how did the ridge grapplers do at Moab? I am down to those and the KO2. some have said KO2 is better for traction on slickrock etc. others said they prefer RG. I even had different answers from 2 different local discount tire stores. I am going to a 315/70, so any real world info you can share is greatly appreciated. You must have had a blast, I hope to get out there sometime. I just installed artec rear inner fenders, they are pretty nice, fitment pretty good, a little nip and tuck. They come bare metal so I had to prime and paint them.
I did a pre-order in the frame mounted sliders / steps. received them in March, put them on tonight. I had a few spots rubbed off from shipping, and also noticed the powder coating is less than ideal. however it was easy to touch up with black paint. I will use them, so I know they will get beat up eventually so I am not that worried about it, but the finish could be better. When did you get yours in? I went with the 315/70/17 ko2 over the ridge grappler bc they came in load c and are about 8 lbs lighter per tire. The ridge grapplers weigh 70 lbs....for some perspective, the Milestar Patagonia's 37s only weigh 72 lbs.how did the ridge grapplers do at Moab? Do you mind sharing what you used to prime and paint them? I have these waiting to be installed but was just going to install them as they are.You must have had a blast, I hope to get out there sometime. Sure....... just clean them with some grease cutting soap Ike Dawn dish soap or etc. then I wiped them down with alcohol. Then applied 3 coats primer and 3 coats paint. Just make sure to use primer for bare aluminum.Do you mind sharing what you used to prime and paint them? I have these waiting to be installed but was just going to install them as they are.
