I bough5 an ECRI last year when I changed tire sizes. I liked its approach to identifying the exact tire dimension, and figured I would give them a shot. I had a user induced issue, and reached out to their customer support - and they were quick to respond, and get me fixed up.

Reading the posts about thieves popping hoods to steal batteries, or disable horns, I started looking into options for making my Jeep’s alarm sound when the hood is opened, and the doors are locked.

I emailed ECRI yesterday morning at 9:07am, inquiring if they have that feature. At 10:03, customer service replied with - ā€œyeah, we can do that for you! Give us a call when your device is connected to the Jeep, and we can enable that change.ā€ Apparently they have not received this request before.

Just wanted to share for fellow or future ECRI owners that their customer support is top notch!

Be sure whatever they/ECRI come's up with for you in regard to the enabling of horn honking when the hood is opened.... that it does not disable your JL's remote start if your JL has factory remote start.

ECRI is an American Company located in Springfield, Missouri, USA. Their products are designed and assembled in the USA.

You can contact their Customer Service and they will actually call you back... and they speak English and are real easy to deal with/to work with.

You will also find an ECRI Booth at say Jeep Beach and similar events.

I often suggest people buy / go with, ECRI's $34.99 Security Gateway Bypass Module when they want to program their JL/JT with JSCAN. The ECRI SGW Bypass Module works well with the JL/JT.

Got an email from ecri yesterday that the feature was added to my VIN. Went out this morning, installed the security bypass module, plugged the ECRI into the OBD2 port, and fired up the app. And at the very bottom of the menu was the new feature. Toggled it on, followed the prompts, and waited for it to do the magic. Unplugged everything and hopped out, locked the Jeep, and walked to the hood.

When I opened the hood, I was prepared to be startled by the horn…. But I wasn’t. I closed the hood, and pushed down on it slightly - and when it came up, I jumped as the alarm started going off. I tested it 3 times, and only once did the alarm sound the first time the hood was opened. The others triggered the alarm when I either pushed the sensor down and released it (the hood open sensor on the left), or when I closed and reopened the hood.

I have had my share of troubles with this Jeep, so I’m going to say it is a Jeep issue versus an ECRI issue. I don’t have a tazer To confirm my theory.

Am I happy with it? Yes. For the price paid, and the customer service experience, I would give it a solid 9 out of 10. I’ll tinker with the switches and see how I can make it run 100% of the time as I expect it to.

and the remote start works just fine.
