Regarding your question about military and emissions, they’re exempt.
I agree. It's sad but it's true.

You can be exempt too, if you don't tell anyone what you did! ;)

I'll probably turn my build thread into a delete thread once I transition over to the dark side.

I know Cummins is coming out with a octane engine soon. I believe they're trying to make it as much like a diesel as they can, without all of the emissions nonsense. Basically the ease of running a gasser engine, with the power output of a diesel engine... Let me see if I can't find that link

Bingo! The fuel system of the military trucks are not the same as modern common rail systems we have today. The old HEUI and mechanical injection system of the old diesels had a lot lower fuel pressure and greater tolerances in their fuel injectors. They would allow contamination that would wreck havoc in the injectors with today's fuel pressures.
Yes! This is a HUGE part of the reason, along with how most modern Diesel engines are even higher compression than the older ones that are multi-fuel capable.

To the topic, I ran WMO on a 7.3 PSD and vegetable oil on on old Benz OM67, and it's a huge let-down as far as things like economy, cold-weather performance, system gunk build-up, and processing to use. If this were end-times, I would prefer WMO over veggie oil, but I would still siphon/find Diesel before anything else.

EDIT: To do a conversion, first thing you're going to have to do is redo your entire fuel delivery system. The lift pump might survive, but you will want to redo all of your hosing, and replace the HP pump with something that is more durable... Probably run a significant mixture of something like MysteryOil or some HotShot lubricity additive more than EDT... Then you're going to have to entirely remap the mixing and timing profiles in the PCM. Then you will have to remove any crank-case venting or anything that allows anything to blow into the intake upstream of the MAF sensor.
