Driving with 4x4 high on highway

Any extra load due to binding was on the transfer case. If you were able to pull out of 4Hi and get it back into 2Hi without much trouble you're fine and didn't even stress the chain much at all. When they get all bound up the are tough to get out of gear. I'm assuming you were able to get it out of 4hi since your post didn't end with "and I couldn't get it back into 2hi"

You're fine. Definitely a not a habit you want to get into, but you're good.

I believe the owners manual says you can drive in 4H up to 55 or 60 MPH.

I believe that would only apply in conditions that are expected to be slick. It would not be recommended in dry situations where traction isn't an issue.

Agreed. Common sense should rule in that case but I make no assumptions. You'd be surprised how many people lack that and have argued with me to use the 4hi justification to exceed what normal people would consider safe.
