While looking under the Jeep, I noticed this little guy on the front driveshaft.
It looks like a small amount of grease or black oil was slung on to the CV flange and on to the Transmission housing. Not much, just enough to get some splatter on the housing and a small wet spot on the flange. I turned the driveshaft by hand and ran my finger along the boot and felt no cracks. It looks like it may have come out from a hidden crack under the clamp.
Today was the first time running the front axle since the lift was put on. I’m wondering if grease pooled at the forward end of the boot and was slung out when I spun up the driveshaft.
Is this something to start worrying about? The Jeep is still under the drivetrain warranty, but if it needs a new driveshaft I’d rather not go with a factory replacement. My JK seemed to have regular problems with the CV’s.
