Downhill assist with 6-speed

So I was in my buddies JK automatic with the downhill assist button and it is awesome. I have a 6-speed manual and in 4-hi 1st gear I still need to ride the brakes going down steep hills unlike the automatic with the downhill assist button. In 4-low 1st gear it is awesome, I literally have to give it gas to go down hill but the rpm's are way too high. Am I doing something wrong? Please help.

the problem is 4-low 1st gear I'm @ 4k rpm's, 4-low 2nd gear I have to ride the brakes, 4-hi I'm riding the brakes. I'm asking if there is another way w/o having to ride the brakes.

So your not having to brake in 4 low 1st gear and running at 4k rpms? If so...so what. If its a pentastar it can handle that no prob.

The auto with downhill "assist" is doing the braking for you.

The manual lets you do the braking for you.

The hold back of a manual is better in my opinion once you get the feel of the new gearing. You will have to use the brakes at times, but that's not going to over heat them unless you are not letting the gearing work for you at all. You will be fine. Enjoy the play.

Go to 2nd or 3rd in 4Lo. 1st 4hi seems to be between 3-4 in 4Lo gearing wise. Haven’t done the math just going by feel
