I live in Mexico, have forgotten to update my profile! Yes, the Jeep has been here for 2.5 years. The dealer in Mexico wants me to pay for everything and the just "claim" it back to the US (who/where?). But, I don't really trust that "process". Also, I have never paid for a warranty claim before on anything upfront and the have to claim it back.
Makes sense now.

I have had several extended warranties that weren't specifically provided through a dealership/company, i.e., my previous Nissans and Hondas were covered by 3rd-party extended warranties. If I didn't have the service done at the dealership that sold me the warranty, I had to call that dealership to get pre-approval to have it done somewhere else. I had to pay upfront for the warranty work and submit a claim. I've been happy with Subaru and Jeep because they provided a company extended warranty. And I have used both away from the original dealership with no issues; maybe it's a Mexico thing.

I would be cautious about paying upfront, but a head unit seems pretty self-contained and a known quantity.

Since it's not registered in Mexico (which would render it ineligible for warranty work), then you are a visitor there. I can understand the local dealer's concern about not getting reimbursed.

Waiting 6 mos. and then suddenly it being urgent also looks sus.

Your contract says to get an authorization number first. Get that (or a contractual reason why they're denying the repair).

I'm curious about a foreign vehicle being imported for 2-1/2 years w/o being registered there.

I am a Permanent Resident of Mexico. In Baja you don't need to import your vehicle. I have serviced my Jeep at this dealer for the last 2 years.

I did not wait 6 months I started talking to Jeep in the US and Mexico 6 months ago.

You have a lot of opinion for someone with little information.

I can only work with what's presented.

You imported your vehicle--whether you did it legally or not is another issue. Are you saying you can become a permanent resident there and not have to register your vehicle there at all ever or get a license and insurance? That doesn't pass the sanity check and this site ( Step By Step: Bringing Your Car To Baja Mexico - Elevate Los Cabos ) explains how/when you have to (which you had to).

My point is that you are a Mexican resident for over 2 years, which requires your vehicle to be registered in Mexico, which renders your vehicle ineligible for coverage per your screenshot.

Ad hominem isn't how you solve problems.

My wife is only a temporary resident and the car is registered in her name. So fully legal. Insurance is local. I think you need to read up a bit more about different ways of being permanent in Mexico and talk to some lawyers who knows this stuff more than your first google search.

I wasn't willing to do more than 30 mins research to help you to solve your problem. Sorrynotsorry.

Perhaps you could have provided information rather than insult.

Perhaps that's the issue here: you want others to do your work for you.

Never asked you or anyone to do research on legal status in Mexico. That is not what this post was about and I have never mentioned/indicated that it was a issue. We are driving/owning/insuring our Jeep fully legally here in Mexico, you don't have to worry or second guess that. The problem is as described; Mopar not fulfilling their warranty obligations.

You started with the insults, saying it was 'sus' that I just started to complain now after 6 months, which indicates you never really took time to read the initial post.

Seems like the title of this thread really ought to have something like "if you're in Mexico" in it... like, you likely wouldn't be having this issue if you were still in the States. Not that you aren't getting the shaft and it SHOULD be covered etc... but this thread makes me think "Don't do the extended warranty if you're moving to Mexico." Not necessarily "Don't do the extended warranty, period." Not that I would, anyway...

We bought the extended warranty (see below), that specifically details that it is valid in Mexico. 6 months ago my head unit bricked due to a Mopar over-the-air software upgrade, Courtney at @JeepCares initially pretended to be helpful have stopped responding, Lauren (a "specialist" who first told me that she would fix this, says she doesn't care, because I'm in Mexico). Mexico says I have to pay them and then "claim it" to Jeep US, who obviously don't give a shit. So, I am stuck at paying for a new head unit plus installation for something that Jeep did, despite me having a warranty. What a shitty company.

Sounds racist.

Question - Why do companies push so hard to sell extended warranties?

Answer - Because it is in THEIR best interest.
I worked at a credit union as a consumer lender, simple stuff; home equity, auto, unsecured loans. We sold GAP policies and extended warranties. The warranty company definitely came through for customers, I was one of them. $700 warranty and paid for my $3000 transmission replacement.

Anyway.... I made $50 per warranty sold and $25 per GAP policy sold. Our GAP policies were a flat fee of $295 no matter how much upside down the customer was and it paid up to 150%. The warranties were very fairly priced. I would see customers coming in to refinance their auto loan and they bought a $3000 warranty that we would tell them to return and buy one from us for $1200. On those warranties, I saw what the CU made, generally 50% of the cost was profit for the CU. Think about that for a dealer now, if the CU makes $600 on a $1200 warranty, it's probably that the dealer is making $2400 for selling that $3000 warranty with comprable terms, generally the CU warranties were better, longer coverage or more items covered.

Now you know why I hate F&I guys, because they make 6 figures to rape your wallet and laugh about it at the water cooler. Then, when you don't buy something from them, they get all pissed off with you like you're wasting their time. Not my fault you don't have a product for sale that is beneficial to me. The last vehicle we purchased was a Chevy Equinox and the F&I guy visited us three times, the third time he said "this is the absolute lowest price we can go on the extended warranty, this is at our cost." I said, "I told you before and I'll tell you again, no thank you, we're not interested." He got all huffy and started then rudely sliding the papers across the table for us to finish signing. They remind me of time share sales guys, you know, the "no pressure" ones that yell at you, "so, you're just here to waste our time and take advantage of us?!" "yes, you offered me 3 nights in the Bahamas to sit through your roughly 1 hour presentation that we're not 3 hours in on, I don't care, don't offer this then."
