Doing a cheap miata challenge with some friends

Thought some of you guys would get a kick out of this. I'm still working on my vette. And i still have a Jeep and am playing with that on and off along with the rest of this.

But, a bunch of us decided we needed something cheap to build. And you can pick these mazda Miatas up for 500-2500 bucks. So we decided to do a challenge. $3,000.00 total budget. you have to buy and build your car. we are going to do a race day probably at summit racing's carfest. So there will be autox, drag racing, dyno pulls, and a few other things. we can do that all 1 day. And the 2nd and finale to the whole thing will be driving these cheap shitbox miatas 500 miles to the miatas at the gap event at the tail of the dragon.

That's a great project! I loved my old Miata. I can't take credit for the build but it was very well done. I plan to get another one some day.

the miatas at the gap portion is in early august. 5-8? It's on the page under events. Still working on a race day. Up to 13 cars now.

Its kinda cool but WAY to much money in a little beater car. Its one of those 500rwhp cars that runs 12s because it doesn’t hook and gets slaughtered by a Coyote.
If I’m dumping that kinda cash in a hot rod I’m going to do up an 11-14 Mustang or a C5.
Miata challenge is spot on, junk money spent on a junk car and have a good time.

This brings back memories. Here's a much younger me putting a V8 in a 1st gen Miata. I agree, it normally didn't hook up very well. At the time I lived in the country and was on a well that had very hard water. On the days I had to buy 40lbs bags of salt for the water softener I was always looking for someone to surprise at redlights.
