That it's almost a Jeep wave (more of a scout salute), but it's in a Mazda. And in a country that drives on the wrong side of the road.

People in Miatas wave at each other (top-down only), but not like that. I'm thinking the two-finger salute implies something that I'm out of the loop on.
In my long time driving a Miata I can honestly say I never waved or was waved at by anyone, it is not a thing Miata owners do.

One out of 5 vehicles in the Ft Bragg area is a Jeep. I wave to the ones I can actually “see” the people in them. Most are tinted so hard you can’t see the driver.😐

When driving my Wife's Wrangler I wave at anything that looks like a Jeep (FJ Cruisers, Samurais, Old Land Cruisers, Land Rover Defenders, Renegades on 40's and one tons, 2 rectangular legos stacked together), unless they have an angry grill, or are driving a 4XE.

I still love the Jeep Wave and it puts me in a good mood but it just depends on the day if I'm being totally honest. Some days I try to initiate waves and wave back to every Wrangler I see. Other days I'm just thinking about other stuff and don't bother even looking at other Wranglers. And sometimes I see approaching Wranglers waving too late for me to respond. No offense intended!

I remember getting my TJ and wondering what were all those people waving for

Like on my motorcycle, my arm would give out waving to everyone. Most on both don't wave back. Bikes are better though.

Oh also those that have 5% tint all the way around including the windshield... like I hope you don't expect me to wave at a metal box.
5% is legal in CA?

35% is the limit on the front two windows here in NC, and no tint is allowed below the AS1 line on the windshield. They do check during inspections, though you can find shops that will pass it. However if the offending shop gets caught, it's a huge fine.

I've been meaning to get the back doors, hardtop windows, and rear glass tinted darker though since those are exempt on an SUV (Jeep) here in NC.

In the Phoenix area, about 7 out of 10 wave. I don't know if this varies from area to area or not. I came from the world of Corvettes, and Harley's, which almost all waved at each other. It was a great comradery.

In CA no amount of tint is legal on the front windows + windshield. Most LEO don't pay attention to it though. If you get caught it's just a minor "Fix-it" ticket. Remove the film and go get it inspected for a fine. Then they just drive right back to the tint shop to get it put back on.

I enjoy the comradery among Jeep owners so I always wave. I wished it was a thing for the Dodge Charger because I have one and there are more Chargers than Jeeps where I live, but there is still a ton of both.

It would be interesting to know how many people really think waving is a good thing. I think it was invented by the Jeep marketing department, years ago, like "you meet the nicest people on a Honda".

I lived most of my adult life at 8,200' in the Colorado Rockies. EVERY household owned at least one Jeep, and you'd need a a new rotator cuff if you followed the waving trend.

probably more expensive than getting a fine...
