Hi,
I am looking at choices of bumper mounted tire carrier systems. At causal appraisal it seems as if the JCR Adventure Tire Rack is designed to distribute the weight, side to side, more evenly than many of the cantilever tire rack swing arm designs. For example; The Adventure rack seems to distribute the weight while the Shield gate does not.

When the JCR Adventure Tire Rack is in the closed position does it actually rest on the driver's side of the bumper in a way that distributes weight? Has it been observed that the weight is supported, and the cantilever force placed on the pivot stud is reduced, or is the attachement simply a latch that retains the swing arm in position?

Thank you!

It does rest some weight on the driver side, but not anywhere near half. The spindle is pretty stiff, so it doesn't flex much.
