So the numbers are worse on the JL given similar tire sizes. :(

No surprise due to the longer wheelbase length. Only way to compensate woulda been to give it more ride height.

Ground clearance is up across the board: For Sport, Sahara and Rubicon JLs, it is now now 9.7, 10 and 10.8 inches, up from 8.3 (9.6 with optional 17-inch wheels), 9.7 and 10 inches for the respective JKs. Likewise, approach, breakover and departure angles are increased across the board compared to standard JKs. Take the Rubicon Unlimited; in JK guise, its respective angles were 42.2, 21.2 and 32.5, while on the JL, those have been improved to 43.9, 22.6 and 37.

Sorry to bring old shi...stuff, but how would a modded JK always be better than a modded JL. I see above you are saying that a modded JK would be better than a standard JL, but is that really a fair comparison? Just mod the JL with comparable mods to the JK and wouldnt the JL still be better across the board? Just trying to understand.

...curious to see how the JT's even longer than JLU's wheels base (I presume) negatively affects break over angle.

When I enter the data from the JLU Rubicon into this calculator I get a much lower breakover angle of 20.7 degree

Am I missing something?

Ground Clearance 10.8”
Wheelbase 118.4”
Breakover angle 20.7* ???

You are missing something. The ground clearance for the BOA is different than general GC. For BOA, use the lowest point that is roughly at the center point of your vehicle. The mid-point of my Jeep is the lower frame rail, which has about 14" of GC, but a couple inches away is a support bracket that hangs down an extra inch, so I use that point's 13" as my GC when figuring my BOA. The 10.8" of GC you typed into your calculator is the lowest point on the differential and would have no bearing on the BOA due to its location.

Way to go Jeep engineers! :like: :CWL:
They messed up more things too.

They said the JL is lighter but that's if you get a 2 door sport or something.

The doors and body are weaker in the JL because of aluminium vs. steel in the JK.

The JL softop is harder to use than the JKs.

They moved the powered mirror controls to the door in the JL because they didn't have space for the ton of USB ports... now you can't take doors off and get mirror movers for the JL like these:

And to add insult to injury, Jeep promised half doors for the JL but they're not giving them.

The list goes on...

The JL is 200lbs heavier because of the bigger wheels and tires. Pick the optional 17” on the JK and it is the same weight.
The doors are easier to remove and lighter and just as safe as the previous JK. I’d call that an upgrade
Your kidding about the soft top right? It’s been proven and extensively reviewed that the JL is light years better than the JK.
The list goes on? Please do your research. The JL is by all accounts a better version of the JK.

I don't see those as major issues and none of them seriously affect offroad performance.

It's a larger vehicle with a MUCH larger transmission than the JK had. It's got axles that are wider and heavier tubed. It's got larger and likely heavier, tires. The aluminum panels aren't really that big of a deal and make the doors lighter when you take them off...the thin steel tub is the bigger problem IMO in terms of being able to mount things to the body the way one was able to on the JK.

Don't have the soft top, no comment.

Meh...take the doors off completely. Never really understood half doors unless you live in one of those nanny states that requires a door be on the vehicle.
Theb I'd say a degree of breakover angle here and there isn't worth mentioning because it's as easy as changing the tires and suspension which people do anyway.

But each and every one of those things I mentioned can't be addressed that easily and they matter a whole lot if your JL is a daily driver. Again the sad thing is the JL was meant to be the most daily-friendly Wrangler.

I have a stock Rubicon JLU, so you could use the 13" that I use. That should give you a BOA of about 24.75 degrees.
