Stuck between getting 33” tires and 34” tires but I don’t want to have to re-gear...

I have a 2018 JL Sport S auto with a 2.0L turbo engine. If I get 34” tires, do I need to re-gear my Jeep?

No, you don’t.

I’m running 35 inch tires on my Sahara; it drives about the same. The 8-speed automatic goes a long way to help compensate.

Also, when you recalibrate the speedometer, it adjusts the transmission’s shift points.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
The 6spd is a bit tougher to recommend w/ larger tires and the 3:45 gear set. Is there a 295/70/17 tire that you happen to like, would be a good compromise I think.

Excuse my ignorance since I’m a total noob to this, but aren’t the JL autos 8 speed? Could be totally wrong lol

No, you get a tazer and program your tires to the new size. https://amzn.to/3k7zq6P

I have 34's on mine too

He said he has a manual so that would be a 6 speed but yes, you are correct in that the automatics are 8 speed. I wouldn't worry about running larger tires. I know several people ruinning 33's with manuals and no issues at all and they get way more adventurous with their rigs than I do. You definitely want to get a Tazer to change your tire size. The dealer will charge you damn near the cost of the tazer to adjust it one time. I use the OEM rims and tires for the winter and run my good rims with 33's in summer time so I have to change mine when I change out wheels at season change. The tazer has some sick new features like the 3rd brake light flash and turn cam so its worth every penny

I have 35s with a 6 speed manual and 3.45 gears. No problem. The Tazer is a great investment but more necessary with the auto transmission to correct shift points. With a manual transmission, the only benefit in changing tire size is to correct the speedometer.

I second JEEPU4IA. You won't need to re-gear with 34's and an auto trans. I'm running 34's (BFG KO2's 285/75 R17 on Dirty Life DT2's) with a 6 speed manual Sport S, 3.45 gearing. Kind of wish I went with 35's now, but was afraid of possible performance decrease. The manual trans is less forgiving when it comes to larger wheels and tires than an auto. If I had had an auto I would have gone 35's without hesitation. I'm happy with the results so far though and it still looks good. I haven't noticed a decrease in performance. But I haven't been on any trails yet since I had them installed. Bottom line, you should be good with 34's.

Ok, now that it's clear, like the previous replies, I concur, shouldn't be a problem :)
That Tazer addition is a good plan, even the Tazer Lite will get you what you need regarding tire changes.

If it was 20 years ago, I’d highly recommend it. Now with a close ratio 8spd auto and really low 1st and second gear, it should be much more forgiving. I’m going to try 34’s myself with the auto, E torque, 2.0T.

35’s on my sport s. I don’t see 8th gear as much as stock but I still do see it. Usually anything above 72mph I don’t get 8th. Below that I can consistently get it. Still average 19-20 mpg highway and 16-17 city. No problems wheeling it either. I don’t do anything above a blue rated trail though.
