Hi everyone!

Has anyone attempted to do their own DIY tailgate table?

Got the idea from this video, but curious if anyone has successfully done it on their JL.

thanks!

The magnet is interesting, unfortunately the JL tailgate is supposedly magnesium alloy now.

What is the advantage of this is vs the slew of aftermarket options?

It’s like you read my mind...I was literally just researching this and came across this video also. Was planning on working on it.

-price
-larger platform
-better look (if you like the wood look)
-fun little project

All preference

You’re right. It’s not metal. Curious how the modifications would work for the JL. Here’s a pic if anyone has any ideas

There was someone here who used some wire metal shelving from Lowe's. Maybe in the DIY section (which no one visits)

I thought it looked like ass but he was happy, so good for him

I have an outback adventures one I'm trying to sell but man the shipping cost is kinda high. If anyone is in South Texas I'd sell it for 275. Its almost brand new.

I made one and it worked well. I used a 1/4in plywood sandwiched with a nice 1/4in black HDPE sheet.

I used these shelf brackets and just flipped them upside down.

If you pull off the plastic cover on the tailgate, there is a set of empty bolt holes that take M6, if i remember correctly and just bolt the hinges in to that, but get long enough ones so they can reach through the plastic cover.

That’s the truth! I think I’ve driven back and forth from Az to Texas like 4 times recently.

Nice! I may go with your method. Do you have any pics? Would love to see them.

I recall seeing a youtube video on installation of one of the commercial tables. You could look for one of those and see what holes they used. I seem to recall that they used some open slots and put in custom molded plastic inserts to put some screws into.
