Hey all,

Thought I would share my DIY hard top hoist. Similar in construction to other ratchet hoists on here. Used 4 800 lb capacity ratcheting tie downs (nothing like overkill), 8 stainless eye hooks, 2 2x4’s. All told less than $30 from Home Depot.

Only took about and hour and a half to put together and get it up. I hoisted the roof from the garage floor so took a little longer. Easy peasy. Looks good and I’m happy with it. Some pics included. BTW, I park my wife’s Volvo under it just in case something goes wrong at least the Jeep will be okay. :)

I did this the cam buckle tie downs and it works great for getting the top off and I am able to walk under it completely if I get it as high as it will go but lowering it down from that height is another story since you can only do one strap at a time and you cant drop it all the way in one go. I am thinking about going to a 4 pulleys and hand winch crank system to have a single way to raise and lower it.

Yeah, that is one thing I am worried about, getting it back down easily. I considered the hand crank system of some sort and may migrate to that one day. With some of the systems I found folks were saying it took a really long time to lower with the crank, so I figured if it takes time anyway might as well save some $$$.
