Well, I’ve started my impossible mission.
old pinion was marked 0. New pinion is marked 0 . This is a Dana 30, so the shim is under the bearing, not the race. I might need a setup bearing? The shim under old bearing is .050

"Zero" marking on old and new, setup with same shim and run pattern. Since the Dana 30 is not the newer Advantek series, the shim is in the correct location. My understanding the newer Advantek sandwich the shim between race and case. Keep us posted on your progress. What gear set did you go with?

Make sure the temperature is stabilized between all the parts before setting your Pinion Torque to Rotate value.

I'm a moron, so excuse me

Lol. Nice work.

You're not a moron. That process of using liquid nitrogen to shrink parts is common practice in many industries. Not so much for gears on Jeeps, but it'll work, obviously. It's called Shrink Fitting.

Waiting for temp stabilization before install is the important part, but well done.

Well, i have finished my gear swap. What a PITA. I want to thank chevymitchell who tolerated my stupid questions. I used Dana Spicer gear sets, 4.56 ratio. I was coming from 3.45 on 35 inch tires in a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport. I have a Dana 30 front and a Dana 44 rear.

The gears are quit, just took the first road test. I used 80-140 regular oil and added the additive thinggy for the rear. Jeep drives great.

Congrats! I might be doing mine Sunday, so I’m jealous of your completion status!

Probably not the best way of loosening and tightening the pinion nut, but worked for me and saved my hand.

That's genius. I'm going to steal that idea. Glad it all worked out for you.

I’m going to have to try this tomorrow, I cannot get my front pinion nut off, and I bent up a pinion yoke holding plate alredy, I’m running out of options to get this complete over the weekend
