Digital Compass states SW when I know I'm going N

As the title states my Compass is confused. I just noticed it today. I have a 2018 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sport JL. Has anyone had this happen?

That was an issue on the 2018s a while back. A software update took care of it on mine. I don’t remember the details but can try to look it up for you if you haven’t had it done.

I did do a search on here but didn't see anything. I googled and found a few people who had the same problem. My auto start stop quit working a few months back but I don't like that option anyway so I haven't done anything to it. Anyway, I don't know if the two problems are connected or not.

I had that happen to me on my 2019 with the 7” display within the first year of ownership. Took it to the dealer; they replaced the entire head unit and said that the only way to fix the compass was to replace it all. Outside of warranty that would definitely suck.

This is the software update I had done. It was primarily to fix the GPS location but it also fixed my compass. Maybe it will help.

If your ESS is no longer working (start/stop) you may have a battery issue. The ESS no longer working is a good indicator of that. If ignored could mean more problems later, including getting stuck with a Jeep that won't start. Lots of info in this forum about it.

Which head unit do you have? My wife's JL has the 7" radio, and I've never noticed a problem with that one. The 5" in my JL is another story though - I think I've reprogrammed it 2 or 3 times in the last few years because it gets confused.

Jerry is correct. There's a Compass Calibration procedure that I've had to perform twice since purchasing it Nov 19 on my 2019 JL Sport. It's under 'Settings' on my UConnect 3 (5") radio. It's the same for the UConnect 4's (7") or larger radios as well.

First you go somewhere where it's easy to drive in circles. Setup the calibration and do exactly what it says. It took me 720° (two full circles) before my compass became accurate.

It's really easy, no dealership involved. Had to do it one more time after removing my UConnect while I was installing my Satellite and CB radios. So the compass is a function of my radio and appears to require calibration if power is ever removed from it.
