Place Value

Definition

*Place value* is a system where the value of a digit **as well as the position of the digit in a number** determines the value of the number.

In the base ten number system, each place has ten times the value of the place to its right.

Example

In the number 329,

- 3 is in the hundreds position
- 2 is in the tens position
- 9 is in the ones position
