Why anyone would want a 'quiet' diesel is beyond me.
Sure I don't want it "1990 Cummins Diesel" loud, but anything a few decibels below that is
Having a distinctive sound is part of what you pay for with a diesel, not for it to sound like a sewing machine. Just MHO-
MY GC 3.0 is much too quiet for my tastes, I know it's a premium vehicle or whatever but yeah when I roll the window down I wanna hear those Torques LOL. I imagine neither the Wrangler nor the JT will have as extreme sound-deadening qualities so I am very optimistic.
Nobody buys a Mustang for it to be 'quiet'...
I remember when I brought home my KJ CRDs, the first thing I did to them was pop the hood and start stripping out all the sound deadening insulation. Engine cover, lower block cover, the whole nine yards went in the trash. I wanted to hear it clatter. I don't want to feel like I'm driving an appliance.

The sound is somewhat amplified I think. @0:30 when the cameraman is walking along the Jeep, you can hear his/her boots slapping on the ground.

My 3.0 GC is very quiet, most people that have ridden in it think it's a gasser, except when it's in the 20's.

I have a 2.4 Kubota Turbo Diesel in my 55 Willys and a 2018 3500 RAM diesel. The sound of both is music to my ears. The turbo spooling up as the torque kicks in is the best feeling you can get driving. I had a Hellcat and a Challenger with a Edelbrock supercharger and the Hellcat had a supercharger whine that was also awesome under power. The Edelbrock supercharger made the power but was as quiet as a mouse. The Edelbrock was boring.

At 2:20 there begins some great sound clips on the EcoDiesel Gen 3 engine.

I'm surprised he risked it on a diesel.......

I knew I'd seen him before badmouthing the diesel. Well badmouthing is a bit strong, I was just a little surprised at his choice. He obviously has a love hate thing going for the diesel, like most of us. If the emissions weren't hamstringing these things, we'd all love them with zero reservations.

Definitely a love hate. Love the torque. Love the MPGs. Hate the horsepower. Hate the fear of a $10,000 Bosch CP4.2 fuel injection failure that FCA will deny coverage on over "bad fuel". It was a risky choice. But hell, you only live once so I'll give it a whirl!

I have a fleet of Dodge 5500 service trucks and the best way to protect yourself from a Bosch CP4.2 fuel injection issue is let the dealer do your services. Pay them to do the fuel filter service when due during a service. That way FCA will have a hard time denying coverage. I will not let them do the air filter but all others they can do.

Too many issues with dealers screwing up oil changes on petrol engines. No thanks, I'll do my own work.

I agree but I have a dealer that has one of the best diesel techs I know. The owner of the dealership lives in my neighborhood and we have become pretty good friends. so I know I can trust them. Not everyone can find that.

That's what I plan to do IF I can afford it. The dealership I purchased from gives a free LIFETIME powertrain warranty if you get all your service done there. The fuel injection system may not be considered "powertrain" I'm not sure, but if I can afford it I'll let them service it.

So far I'm seeing $75 on the oil filter and $50 on the oil plus labor...so I'll have to play it by ear.

You would think the fuel injection system would be considered powertrain but the dealer most likely protected themselves against the fuel injection system. I know on the 6.7 Cummins the fuel filter installed is a little over $400. It's a lot of money. I will have to see what the 3.0 filter plus install will be, If you don't have the dealer do it make sure you at least buy there filters around the date of install to have records of the change.
