Diesel RPM on Highway

For those with the diesel, what is your RPM and gear when cruising on the highway at 80MPH?

2k RPM for me.

I would assume it was top gear, yes. Everything stock on Diesel Rubicon with factory BFG tires.

Granted, my example isn’t using actual tire diameters, but roughly speaking, if a 33” tire-equipped Jeep runs 2000rpm @ 80, then a 35” would run:

(33 x 2000)/35 = 1886

37” ——> 1784
etc.

My JLURD goes into, and holds, 8th gear around town. Been using manual recently to keep RPM up some.

I’ve only got 315/70/17 KO2’s ( that measure about 34 1/2”), but at 60 it holds 8th pretty well. With a Tazer to tweak in the speedometer to agree with gps, the tach shows 1500rpm. With enough headwind and mild grade it will sometimes drop to 7th. I can’t imagine it needing 7th at 80mph. Hopefully other diesel owners will chime in, having sustained that speed on an interstate and can offer first-hand 80mph data.

do you feel like a slightly lower gear would still be comfortable or over revving?

37’s 8th gear 3.73’s approx 1800 rpm @80 mph

2k, 80mph, 8th gear. Pulls up grades at that speed in 8th no problem.

yep right at 2k at 80 MPH. I only have about 300 miles on mine but it is an absolute beast.
