About 9 months ago I posted a few messages concerned about the sound level of the diesel. I took delivery three weeks ago, and I was wrong, It sounds great.

At about -10F it sounds brilliant from the outside on a cold-start...otherwise the DPF largely neuters the sound.

I read a sound article the morning I was on my way to pick up my new JL Diesel. On the way, my wife asked, "Aren't they loud?" Once in the car, I was amazed at just how wrong the writer had been. He actually said, "You are going to have to say things twice because you won't be heard." My JL Diesel is as quiet or quieter than my 2019 JL turbo was.

90% of those tools live in their parents basements or perhaps even worse they’re paid by certain manufacturers to short sell certain competing brands.

there’s certainly some Ford trolls around here already

You guys are spoiled with how quiet the new diesels are. My 2006 Dodge Cummins diesel is loud. My 2000 Dodge Diesel was so loud, you couldn't carry on a conversation outside, with the engine on. Less complicated, louder, and more reliable. Less doohickies to break.

Ha, the ecodiesel just purrs its not loud at all. My old 12 valve. Now that's a loud diesel.

Even worse, an old 7.3 idi in a pre 2000 ford. That's a really loud diesel.

When I took mine in for the window tint, the shop owner commented "that's the quietest diesel I've ever heard". Hearing that engine clatter pulling up hills and rocks is actually comforting to me. I usually have the windows down just so I can hear it. I LOVE this engine!

Yesterday my neighbor's landscaper came running over to ask about the diesel as I pulled out. "Is that a diesel? Sounds powerful!"

I can tolerate the clatter, but I've been spoiled as BMW diesels are much quieter. The N57 engine is nearly silent.

Don't knock the old Diesels, that "Clatter". That clatter is a sign of reliabilty, and simplicity. Those that truly know diesels, know this. I regularly get offers from stranger, to buy my 2006 Dodge 2500 4x4 Cummins Diesel. Many offers are around $22k-$25k. Thats with 185,000 on it. I bought it brand new, for $32,500,, marked down because of high fuel prices.
Now, put 14 years on these diesel Wranglers, and lets see what they bring.

These tools another favorite statement in almost every review is to criticize how the Wrangler handles itself on road.
In my opinion and personal experience with the Wrangler as a daily driver, the JLs are remarkably comfortable and fun to drive on the road, and handles pretty well on the pavement.

I love my EcoDiesel. If you do think it is too loud, try using 45 - 49 certain fuel.

I had a 1999 Dodge Cummins that had the dreaded "54 Block"...and it cracked at 105,000 miles. I did everything to fix that bugger but the crack still ran. I had pulled the 5 speed and installed a 6 speed, tuner, injectors etc and it had so much power I had to put traction bars on because pulling a max load I would get spring wrap. What a beast! Just an essential diesel and NO frigg'n DEF or emissions controls.

Damn near gave it away and bought a 2014 Ram and left it stock, got rid of that and bought this little Wrangler diesel. What a sweet running engine. I just WISH there was not so much emission crap. Can you imagine this thing all tuned up??
