I ordered my JLURD the end of December '19 from Peterson's in Nampa Idaho...Kent Shurtleff their online sales guy was wonderful to work with and provided the best price I could find in the country. I was finally able to go pick it up the last week of June '20 (thanks COVID).
I am in Virginia so it was a bit of a trek to go get the vehicle. However, my two kids 7 & 9 asked to come, so we rented a vehicle (flying was not an option due to COVID) and drove out to Idaho. The dealership picked us up at the rental car drop-off at the Boise airport. Process was quick...about 2 hours after pick-up from the airport we were done.
Kid Approved
We then began the trek home. Instead of just taking the interstate home as fast as possible we decided to make a bit of an adventure out of it. So we planned a route that took us up through Craters of the Moon National Park, then through Yellowstone, up over the Beartooth Pass, quick dip into Montana, then down through the Bighorn Mountains, through Wyoming and Nebraska...then picked up the interstate and back home.
Craters of the Moon was a huge hit. If you haven't been there, definitely worth a trip.
It was then on to Yellowstone. Lots of traffic, but still amazing and lots of animals...kids thought Yellowstone was "pretty cool."
After Yellowstone we went up and over the Beartooth Pass. This was the highlight of the trip for the kids and I loved getting to show them my single favorite drive in the U.S. Note the elevation on the sign.
It was the first week of July...but still cold.
After running around a bit (hard to do at almost 11k feet) it was time for pizza and pie.
The rest of the drive home involved less pictures and an increasing frequency of question about how far we had left. By the time we were done it was over 5K miles on the road in 6 days.
The diesel did awesome...tons of power and incredible mileage. This photo was taken on generally flat ground with just a bit of a quartering tailwind. I admitted I nursed it for 15 mins or so to get it from 28.8 to 29.0 so I could snap the picture. But the 28.8 was at 70 mph and not even thinking about it...just cruising. Once I noted I was that close to 29 I backed down to 60 and took care on the throttle to see I I could hit an avg of 29....wasn't all that hard to do.
Now home and starting the build process. This was the taken a few days after I got home, still bone stock.
The following pictures show stock starting point and the stock height measurements.
Front Wheel Well Rear Wheel Well
More to follow. Tires and wheels next, then rock rails, then front and rear bumper.... will see where it goes from there.
